I think the best way is to spread out the overall costs. I had a custom LS3 418 with a Harrop TVS2300 and I spec out the parts in the build. The build took about 9 months, but I was just paying a little at a time.

By the time I add in a $2k+ Autorad, $1k clutch, $2k accesory drive, $1500 harness, valve covers, tuning, plug wires and coils, ARP bolts throught, nice Russell fittings, tuning and install, etc....you can see where I'm going, huh? And my car is just a street car. It will see no parts of a track ever. I'm just not a track guy....sorry. But, anyway, I can cut about $4500 off of that budget if I go with a resleeved GM LS7 block and not the RHS, but a supercharged motor isn't cheap buy any means or no stretch of the imagination. Trust and believe, I've thought about it and rethought about it daily. Still might go N/A becuz of the total price. I have a buddy of mine in Louisiana that's ready to buy my Kenne Bell if I decide to not do the supercharged engine. I'm still weighing my options as we speak. But, if I go N/A, I've got a BIG surprise for you guys.
Sounds like a killer motor there ^^^^

Sean, I think your answer is in the above post.

Take 214Chevelles $30K build, take $21.5K off for the long block and charger (apples and oranges compared to the LSA crate) = $8.5K

Add that to your $11K crate motor and you might as well say $20K (likely less if you shop around/do some stuff yourself).

So if your goals are a supercharged LS in the 600hp range you'll be in about $5K deeper than the LS3 if this thread is anything to go by .

If your goals are 800hp+ be prepared to spend some more $$$ now, or build the ancillary systems with this in mind (as much as possible) and swap out the crate LSA when you've got a more stout long-block/charger.

C&R Racing now makes a 67-69 intercooler (due to LSA popularity)
It is made to work with a factory core support along with a Vintage Air drier.
No hood latch modifications necessary. Buying one for my Edelbrock LS3 setup.

According to this thread, you need to mod the hood latch with the C&R Racing 67-69 Heat exchanger.

Not sure on the issue, but probably the center support needs to modified.

Here is my other question, This is my first build so maybe i am missing something. But after shopping around I found crate engine depot sells the LSA for 10,795. on the other had texas speeds sells what they call a turn key LSA same HP for 16,999.99 and that uses gm lsa oil pan, gm lsa front drive kit and a gmpp engine controller kit. does it really cost over 6k to get one of these motors to turn key?

If it's "turnkey" I'm sure that price difference more than likely includes your rotating assembly, harness, ECU (flashed/tuned), other odds and ends....plug wires, etc.

I saw that the standard accessory kit cost like 900$ without a/c...so I'm not sure where the extra few thousand comes from...maybe they tune it and all that good stuff but the aftermarket accessory drive cost about 3k...if you get the Lingenfelter LSA CTSV 700HP Package that cost about 6k..the ecu and wiring already comes with the LSA at the base price...im looking for an engine as well so i been trying to price stuff...

That price does allow you to select options. I know the Autokraft pan will fit the DSE subframe for 67-69 Camaro. There is a few additional costs that are not included on their turn-key engine. http://www.texas-speed.com/p-4161-ts...y-package.aspx

Rick's tank with CTS-V fuel pump and controller, Custom radiator setup for 67-69 camaro with heat exchanger, custom airbox assembly, exhaust (headers), starter, intercooler pump for heat exchanger, custom hood latch components, etc.

OK.....so for the phonically challenged, if I order this

http://www.crateenginedepot.com/LSA-...5E-P18237.aspx

Then I will still need the accessory drive at $960, the coolant pump at $262, and a zl1 fuel pump at $296. Correct? Plus I need to source a heat exchanger. Am I reading correctly that this is all I will need.....aside from fabing an air intake tube.
