Default ls3 GMPP Crate motor first start

i am considering a first start without coolant and exhaust. Goal avoid a bloody mess if something happens be able to ck for fuel leaks Back in the day of flat tappets this was never an option as you had to break in the cam. Also I cant run it long at all due to noise..

Curious if this is a bad idea.?

Alternative bring it to exhaust shop on trailer having e=never been run bring it home fill it with fuel and water and start..

I would not start and run it without exhaust and O2 sensors. Same goes for coolant.

I’m sure there are guys who would, it’s just my opinion.

Started my LS3 crate up for about 15 seconds, 1st time, open headers no anti-freeze. I tried to upload the video of startup but kept saying invalid video. PM me email address and I will send it to you.

I agree with Don....I'd NEVER!! What's the point? I mean, I get it, I'm as anxious as anyone to start and hear my motor for the first time. But, not anxious enough to mess something up. Probably won't do any harm, but I'm too scared and don't want to find out the hard way.

That seems like one of those things that will end up making you mad. I'm going with the rest of the crew and advising you don't do it. But if you do.... get video so we can all have a good laugh.

O2 sensors will not read correctly with open headers. They will read lean which will make the car run pig rich....

Default OK so plan B..

Fill radiator with gravity funnel and just water... then put a pressure tester on it .
Put 10-15 gallons of fuel into the vapor works tank to prime pump.. crack feed line to get Air out.. then allow system to build pressure.. look for fuel leaks..

bring to exhaust shop..

bring home.. and start. (god willing)

FIWIW i am planning for the worse outcome I guess.. my only reason for not putting water and exhaust on .. in just in case something goes wrong.. and the motor needs to come out.. or front end apart.... I had the pan off the water pump and intake all off at some point..

Isn’t it a little risky to fill with water this time of year? For some reason I thought you were in the northeast.
