Default Dome light

I am just about ready to have my interior installed after a 7 year restoration. I do not want to put the original dome light in with the lamp that burns about 700 degrees. Anyone using an aftermarket dome light in their 1st gen Camaros?

Great question

I Totally agree that the stock dome light is not the best option.
They make “barrel” style LED bulbs to fit but much better options out there.
On our 68 Camaro (Jim and Geralyn 68 which is featured above)
We bought a killer nice dome light from Smart-Parts.ca
A really cool feature is when you push the lense, light comes on/off which is nice for anyone not driving.
The bezel is billet aluminum and we powder coated our bezel to match interior.
Hopefully this helps!

2052S is the dome light part number we used from Smart-Parts.ca
Very good quality.

I simply put a white LED bulb in my stock housing. From the Mother Ship. (Amazon)

We have a couple of options for 1st gen Camaro/Firebird interior lighting, everything from a led bulb for your dome light to a completely new assembly. In addition, we have a footwell lighting kit and center console lighting options. All led products on the link below use Diode Dynamics bulbs which have a 3 year warranty and brighter than most other led bulbs on the market.

Unfortunately, those use a unique bulb size that is hard to come by in a quality replacement. Our kit uses 194 bulbs which is one of the most common bulb size available.

Which housings are you using? Stock or AAW type? If you have the AAW type, they use a 1156 type LED bulb. Works great.

For what it’s worth, if you just end up replacing bulbs, I found an excellent source for LED’s.

SUPERBRIGHTLEDS.com

Centrally located in Missouri, they usually ship the same day.
They have tables indicating what bulbs to use for individual cars.
They offer different brightness, Kelvin hues, and multiple bulb “globes” for many individual sockets.
They are affordable and ship via USPS.
