Default New from Louisiana

Hello - I've been lurking for a while. I found this site while searching for suspension info and found Ron Sutton's excellent write ups. I'm not sure if my project qualifies as a Pro Tourer, though. It's an old Austin Healey based kit car from the 80's that I picked up cheap. It started as a simple rebuild, but has morphed into a full blown redesign.

I am resigning the Mustang II front suspension with my own longer control arms and narrowing the rack. The rear will be a narrowed Explorer 8.8 with a 3 link. Power will come from a 383 stroker and a T56 6 speed. The engine is still just parts right now. The suspension is under construction. I have some parts built, but I'm still working on the geometry. The downside is that it is limited on tire width, though.

Here's a pic of it before I blew it apart for the rebuild.

Always wondered what happened to those old kit cars.
I figure that there are a bunch of them hanging around, just need to get the owners to sell them for a song.

Check out these photos.

This car is here in the Santa Cruz CA area. Custom suspension with one-off a-arm set-up in the front, flares and side pipes, to widen the track width and get wider tires under the fenders. Has a small block Ford. Really nice car, made the car look like a semi-cobra roadster.

The flares and side pipes really balance the look of the car and contribute to stance of the car.

Getting better rubber on the car is what started all this. Even though the car has flared fenders, the widest tires that fit are 205's. I decided to narrow the track and that snowballed into where I'm at now. If I'm going to all the trouble, I might as well make a few improvements.
