When I was a kid I used to make fun of people's choices on cars or stance or any other mods if I didn't like it or care for it. My dad said something to me at a car show when he heard me making comments that I will never forget.

He said "son, always remember, there's an ass for every seat. whether you like it or not doesn't matter because its not your ass in that seat. If you don't like it keep your mouth shut, have respect, and when you get the chance, then make it how you like it."

I still have my likes and dislikes but I have learned to respect what makes this industry go round and that is different styles and flavors no matter your tastes.

I used to walk around car shows with a buddy --- he was very unknowledgeable -- but during the course of time I had shown him what "I" look at -- glass smooth bodywork -- fit and finish -- door gaps -- wiring -- stance.... I took the time to discuss these things because he wanted to know and was planning to re-do his own hot rod.

Then -- he started to walk around to point out the CRAP he saw..... he'd walk clear across the lawn (or whatever) and make a beeline to something he saw that he thought was nasty. He asked me why I didn't go with him..... and I told him --- I'm not the judge of someone else's work - or budget - or talent - or taste.... and if I had nothing nice to say then what was the point etc. I went further to point out that when I'm looking around someone's car -- I'm trying to LEARN something from what they did.... not to question WHY they did what they did etc.

I think this is why I dread hanging out at car shows. You sit there in your chair and listen to the dumb s****T people have to say or "espouse" what they know about this or that.

I find when I'm just out cruising my own stuff --- I have a big smile on my face and I can't hear the dumb stuff.... and I'm happy. LOL

Not to get off track here........But what Greg said....As we get older and "Evolve" in respect to the car Hobby......Looking at the different cars built for different purposes from different people........The cars are a side show to spending time with the people and friends made thru the car Hobby.......That's what's really Important......When we started out anything that that made it to a Car show was a good thing.....The people are what's really important..........And........It's more fun to own a car you can drive .......than to "OWN" a car.........

Ken

Default Ken Lingenfelter said this is probably the nicest Riv in existence...

...but Charley’s will arguably be the baddest Riv in existence.
