I was going to try the drilling before I did the paint work, but the amount of adjustment that is available on the first gens is crazy. Imagine it as working in 4D.
We ended up taking the hinges off and putting them back on a number of times and figured out that it does not take but a very small amount of movement to throw everything off. So I didn't feel like drilling a few small alignment holes was going to be very beneficial for my situation.
In the end I felt better about understanding what adjustments were necessary to move door to the right place. I found that by using a regular pencil and marking around the hinges that I could get everything in position.
This is why I chose to shoot thru out the area and then reshoot again after the doors are on, and then clear.

Woo Hoo... Moving along, I was able to get the doors on and then I started wet sanding in preparation of paint.

Two days later, masking up and ready for sealer, paint and clear...

Paint looks good. This must be an exciting time for you putting down some color. The car is bright enough I'll be able to see it from California, LOL. Really good looking yellow. Nothing bashful about it, which is good given it's going to be an awesome car when you are done. Liked the sign a lot. God strengthens all believers when they have faith.

Hey guys thanks for the compliments.
It's been twenty four years since I have done any paint or primer work. I left the paint and body shop business to work a career in the petrochemical industry in operations.
I still have all of my old spray guns and equipment but I ended up buying new HVLP guns.
They seem to be way more efficient with the materials.
I started out pretty rusty at the technique but it's coming back with practice.
