I tried the headers on the motor to see what they looked like for fitting an oil cooler thermostat near the oil filter, it looks kind of tight.

This is tight ! Its a bad angle.

There is just enough room to get my finger in there

I'm not sure if its too tight to the headers for the Improved Racing oil thermostat to fit without soaking up too much heat and the thermostat staying open because of it. I'd like to use the one that fits there but I may have to use a remote inline thermostat.

I'd say go AN line with a remote inline.

Improved Racing part should fit. I would not worry about it getting too hot. It is oil cooled by the bypass oil which is always flowing.

I don't see how a remote inline thermostat will provide the bypass function.

Here you go Don. I'm going to remount the Header and get a measurement.

OK, so four ports. That makes sense.

I don't think the thermostat is much thicker than the part you are removing from the filter housing. I have one, it is quite compact.

Thanks,
Don

The thermostat thickness is 1.3" and I have 1.57" . That's with the factory oil pan, I'm using an AutoKraft pan with their aluminum filter adapter. I don't know if it moves the mounting point out any or if it's in the same location as the factory one. Did anyone with an AutoKraft pan notice if the mounting face distance changed in or out?

The external bypass is what I have on my car, mounted in the lines just in front of the motor mount area. If you are dropping or changing the pan, get the crank scrapper from Improved, it will be free HP, and so easy to install.

If anyone wants parts from Improved PM me, they sponsor me and I can give you a discount code.
