Default L99 with external oil cooler question....

I'm swapping a '14 Camaro L99/6L90 into my wifes FJ40. The L99 has the external oil cooler on the side of the oil pan and plumbed into the cooling system.

Are you guys keeping the oil cooler on your swaps? How are you plumbing the coolant feed into the cooler?

Basing my opinion purely off my experience with my POS 6.0L Ford Diesel, I would eliminate it and run a stand-alone oil cooler. I’ve found the oil cooler can break down due to acidity in the coolant, and when it does, you end up with oil in your coolant. May only be a stupid Ford problem, but that’s my experience.

Jeff I run the oil coolers from 2006-13 Z06 corvettes, run them to a small cooler mounted up front. Its air to oil and easy to mount.

Thanks for the tips guys!

Keeping a factory system in place has its appeal, but not if it’s going to be problematic down the road.

Jeff-
There are Camaros with 100k miles on them using that system. No reason to think there will be problems imho.

True!

One of my issues is I may have to swap oil pans and this factory setup bolts to it. Wanted some experienced opinions to guide my choices. Nothing seems too complicated either way I go, but I do have a bad habit of over thinking....

Jeff, do you have a build thread somewhere on the FJ? I picked up a 74 FJ40 and I'm in a middle of stripping it down/selling off parts I don't need. Hoping to get it going before summer.

I'm in the strip down, mock up stage on the LS conversion right now. Once I begin to get some things sorted out, i'll update the thread with some pics...
