Got to remember the difference in diameter of the tire. Mine fit fine w/ the the wheels straight. w/ the wheel turned, the larger diameter of the 285/40 tire hits the back of the wheel well where the 245/40 easily clears. Moving the wheel in towards the hat/frame moves the tire away from the back of the wheel well (when the front of the wheel is turned out). My wheels have 5.75" bs. If you look back at the pics to see where it hit, I was at just about 1 full turn of the steering wheel. 6.75" feels like it would look super tucked and dorky but maybe not. Maybe your '69 has more room at the aft fender and this won't be an issue for you as it is for me.
