Default Gen V motor vin location

I bought an L86 and 8L90 for a swap project supposedly from a 2015 Silverado. It has no ECU, just the motor and trans so I’m trying to get a vin somewhere for programming reasons. I found what looks like a vin on the back of the engine block but it doesn’t come back to anything. The number is only 16 digits. Is there a missing number at the beginning?

I know this doesn't answer your question, but that isn't the VIN. I don't know what it is...perhaps a casting number. Even if a number/letter were missing, the 8th digit should be a "J" which signifies a L86. There's no "J" anywhere in there.

Found this:

this is for the engine. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is located on the left side rear of the engine block (1) and is typically a nine digit number stamped or laser-etched onto the engine at the vehicle assembly plant.

•The first digit identifies the division.
•The second digit identifies the model year.
•The third digit identifies the assembly plant.
•The fourth through ninth digits are the last six digits of the VIN.

I just happen to have an L86 out in my shop. The VIN is in a location that is blank on your engine. It won’t tell you if it’s a 6.2 anyway. I found the block part number on the back. It’s 12619168 for a 6.2. Couple of pics attached.

Compare the finish on your VIN location to the one on mine. They look quite different imho....

It almost looks like someone took a sander to that area of my block. That’s a little disturbing.
