On this day 48 years ago I was sitting on the corner with my buddies ( because my 66 Chevelle SS was boken AGAIN! ) My father had a garage and he and my mother came back from food shopping. They went straight from work and we hung at a corner between where we lived and the garage. I had been spying a red 69 X33 Z28 at a dealer near the house. Had no job and one more year of high school. My father was the best!He told me I could pay him when I graduated. My mother was the fiscally responsible Adult lol. When they said lets go,I said see you guys I'm going to get my Z/28 and laughed it being only a pipe dream. When we got up stairs my father said you want to go look at that car??? I dragged him and my mother with no supper and we left. We lived on the third floor, I don't think I touched one step on my way down!
When we got down there the was My Z/28 for $2495.00 with 10,000 miles on it, and right next to it was a light blue white top and interior for $300 less. I dragged Dad to the Z my mother stopped at the blue one 327 2brl single exhaust and said Johnny this ones $300 less. After I floated down the stairs, I hit the ground Hard When she said that!
Of course the salesmen knew what I was there for and tried to help. He opened the hood with that giant air cleaner hooked up to the cowl and I said Dad it's a 302 it's smaller than you 70 Chevelle 307! He looked at me and said quietly That air cleaner is bigger than my motor. so Ma couldn't hear. We took it for a ride and I drove my parents in the back seat, and the guys telling me go ahead HIT IT!!! I said pal I'm sold we're selling it to them . My mother put up a good fight but My father was on my side. We went in and did the paper work and I was in shock.
I'm not saying I miss this car but
I also have the original tax receipt and the original envelope we got from the dealer. It's too bad you have to get old to know how good you had it.
Here it is after I started beating on it like a rented mule!
That's my cousins 69 Charger that was painted in New York it even had a plaque with the companies name on it. It was amazing.
Please excuse any typos Hard to see with a tear in my eye lol
