Default tanks inc fuel sender wiring

I am looking to add a weather pack connector much like this picture but I feel like this looks a little too short. would you guys suggest adding some 14 guage wire? if so what is the best way to extend this. butt connectors? I have seen some that self solder with a heat gun. Any info would be great.
Thanks

If you can still get to the wires easily then I would use solder and heat shrink over butt connectors.
