I owned a 70 Chevelle, which I stuffed 15x10in gm rally wheels under with no mods whatsoever. You just have to get the backspacing right. I used 5.5in on rear and the standard 3.5 to 3.75in front. Eventhough, you are considering 20, the BS will be the same because it relates to width, not height. I had weak springs in rear initially and they would rub on bumps/dips, then were just fine after spring replacement.
I now own a car more similar to your's...a 67 El Camino. I bought 18 and 20in Torq Thrust IIs for it. I ordered them with 4.5in BS front and 6in BS on rear, just in case. There are new springs in the rear, but you never know when suspension could bottom out under load. I'm not above working that Elky under hard times...LOL. Hope this helps.
The Torq Thrust are 18x8 and 20x10s.
Also, it doesn't hurt to overcompensate maybe a 1/4 to a1/2 inch when it comes to BS. If you go over, you can always correct with a simple and inexpensive 1/4in to 1/2in spacer. On the other hand, if you undercompensate, you may as well plan on selling those puppies and starting all over.
Take care.
