Default slip yoke play

I swear I've asked this question before but I can't find the thread. Anyway, in my effort to hunt down what's causing my high speed vibration, I'm looking at the slip yoke and output shaft of the transmission for excessive play. I get some vertical play by just pushing the driveshaft up right at the front u-joint. I can wiggle, for lack of a better term, the output shaft of the transmission when the driveshaft is not in place. Is there any play in the output shaft on a T56? I'm looking at replacing the output shaft bushing since it's got 180k miles on it but wasn't sure if I should be looking further in on the transmission, too.

Eventually, I'll rebuild the transmission, but at this time, I'm just trying to rule out play in this area as the culprit for my vibration issues.

Thanks!

I had to go back a ways to find this, was my old 200R4 and I can attest that just this slight amount of movement did cause a high speed vibration.

On that trans we pulled the bronze bushing out and put a new $4.00 bushing in and it fixed it right up. Not the same as a T56 I'm sure but just to give you an idea of slip yoke slop.

This also has a lot to do with the length of the slip yoke --- there are lots of lengths available and one that is too short will cause this issue.

I would talk with a reputable transmission shop / drive line shop to see length should be used vs perhaps - what you have.

Thanks for the video, Lance. That's about what mine does now.

I'm going to speak with the people I buy the tail shaft bushing from as well about this issue and their thoughts on output shaft play. I'm probably going to spend the $40 and have the balance on the driveshaft checked also. It's the only way I can rule it out. At this point, I'm basically having go through a list of possible causes in order to figure out this vibration issue.

Thanks guys
