For those who enjoy displacement projects

As some of you know, I have other passions in life than just mere hotrod building. Some of you have been witness to my relative audio reproduction expeditions and in general know that I have a pretty hard core taste for things that are 'tech' savy.

Seeming that I have been into audio as long as I have been throwing wrenches, I ran across an article that a fellow audio junkie passed on, and have found the holy grail of low frequency reproduction. Be warned, this link in not for the weak, but its purpose is for the refined hardcore. I will implore that you read the whole article and not just stare at the pictures. This effort is loaded with hardcore tech, science and known physics.

Blown~ well I'll tell you that these are designed to make 120+dB at 10 cylces. Fifty Cent aint got nuthin........nuthin.........on these, considering that a human with (considered) excellent hearing can only reconize about 22 cycles and up on a good day. If you were to feed them with the supplied and capable 6400 watts, they would make roughly 160+dB.

That would be louder and have more sound pressure than that of a Top Fuel Rail dragster cutting the tree, some 20 feet away from you. Who said you needed to goto the races for it to be live ?? Well, maybe you would have to, to really get the "real" tears from the nitro fumes and tires smoke ??


Scott~ Well, I wish I had the realestate for something that complex. It would really be something to have the ability to reproduce 120+dB with O N E watt.....thats for sure.

My next project is already in the works, as I am done acquiring components for the cabinets. They are a modified cabinet of the original "Jensen Imperial" design, driven with two 15" transducers. They look like this:





This set of cabinets are driven with two 18" transducers (with a nice Fostex array to finish them out):

They are not quite as big, but they are larger than my 19 cu/ft cabinets that I currently have in use.......the new cabinets pictured measure in at roughly 28 cu/ft per cabinet driven with two 15" transducers. Which is enough to cause, and for one to find structral problems with your home builder. Problems kinda like this:
