Default Any suggestions on shipping From Texas Goodguy show to Calif (first time shipping)

Hey all, any suggestions for shipping my car back from Texas to Ca as i'm driving there in the Goodguys road tour and shipping back i've never done before.

Also thinking of driving back, but timing is questionable....

Never shipped before, any ideas on rates ( i was expecting 600 to 800 and got a quote of 1450) not sure if its for convenience.... thanx, Mike

I have transported a couple cars and its usually close to a dollar a mile for a nice enclosed hauler. I have used intercity which was great and also used GT Autotransport which is actually a good-guys perferred transport.

600-800 is not happening unless it's an open.

1450 sounds about right give or take these days. Might be able to shave a couple hundred or so off I'd think.

You can go with a direct reputable carrier (Intercity, Sunday, etc) or a broker or u-ship for less $. All up to you on what you're comfortable with and budget.

I'd say take the time off and drive the sucker if you can.

The biggest issue I would expect you to face at this point is finding someone available to take the shipment. You are less than 2 weeks out from the return, correct? Some of the busier shippers are going to need more notice than that to schedule the pickup, unless they have a cancellation. So I suggest you start making phone calls quickly...

Thanks for the replies. Yesterday i did book and got a rate of 650 from Dallas to Livermore. I wasnt really shopping for rate, the good-guys referall estimated me at 1450 and i've known quite a few people to have it done for 700 ish. But after further review, they were good at 1450. I think mine might be open so not as secure (plus Hail? possibilty).
So definately a learning experience for me....
Wish I could drive it back Dave, but 25 hours and have taken a week off already, its just too tough when you run the show with demanding clients and employees....plus taking two weeks off just before/during sema i didn't want to take off the tuesday/wednesday....

I arrange transport for about 3-4 cars a year and Western Transportation out of Denver has had the best rates and schedules for about the last year... Last car I shipped down from Chicago to DFW they had everyone beat by $500 and had it picked up a week sooner.

I would really be leery of a $750 quote all the way out to Cali. I would say I've paid around around $1500 average between Cali and DFW for enclosed transport with reputable carriers... it got as high as $2500 back when fuel was really expensive.

Yeah, i really should of posted this a week ago, but i was just going to do the good-guys transport, but i really couldn't get any solid feedback. Then i was going to drive it home, then changed my mind.
Now the effin fuel tank (Ricks s/s tank) won't accept more than eight gallons of fuel (WTF)...so we'll see if i even make it, i've had a mechanical before i've even left....agh....
