Project Nasty a 1969 Ford Mustang
built completely by Christiana Muscle
Cars, Inc. in New Castle, DE.
www.CMCResto.com We started building
project Nasty 4 years ago with big ideas
and dreams. We had no idea it would take
4 years to complete. The main driving
force behind this project was the
drivetrain. We were able to obtain one
of the first Ford Shelby GT 500
Supercharged Crate Engines.

We thought it would really separate this
car apart from other restomod Mustangs.
It is a really neat part of the car but
unfortunately it took us so long to
complete the car it just isnt as unique
anymore. However, you have to love all
the power the supercharged engine
delivers! Regardless one of the best
things I did was talk with several
designers about my ideas for the body
changes we wanted to make on the outside
of the car. We struck up a great
relationship with Murray Pfaff of Pfaff
designs. www.pfaffdesigns.com Murray was
excellent to work with and really gave
great advise and beautiful renderings.
Once we decided on a basic design we put
the 69 mustang fastback up on our frame
rack. The car was pretty rusty but all
we really needed were the rockers, roof,
cowl and quarters. Well we even had to
work pretty hard on those pieces but
that is water under the bridge. Once we
cut off all the bad stuff we were able
to concentrate on building the frame,
mounting the engine and building the
fire wall. We teamed up with Ride Tech
suspension www.RideTech.com and
installed one of their 4 bar rear
suspensions and set the ride height both
front and rear. Ride tech has been great
to work with over the last couple years.
We kept upgrading the suspension every
time something new came out and the car
wasnt even finished.
As we progressed with the build we
completed the basics like the floor,
trunk floor and mini tubs. Then we got
into some of the exciting stuff like
rocker and quarter panel treatments. It
was a challenge but we insisted on doing
the entire car in steel. We felt like
some of the old school hot rod guys not
wanting to use any fiberglass anywhere.
It means a lot now that we can say Yes
its all steel! Some of the design ideas
that became a challenge were the shaved
drip rails and center exhaust with rear
belly pan. It wasnt easy but we figured
it out! Also we worked with Bonspeed
wheels www.bonspeed.com and were able to
custom fit the exact backspacing that we
needed to fit our car. Also we went with
BFG KDW tires all the way around.

On to body work and paint and again it
was a struggle because everyone in the
shop new it had to be perfect. The
entire body was coated with a thin layer
of Tigershark body filler from Crest
Products. Once the body was laser
straight we sprayed the car with BASF
www.BASF.com paint and clear. Our local
Finishmaster paint store
www.finishmaster.com mixed us up one
Nasty color of orange!
So we thought we had the bull by the
horns now the car was painted it was
only a matter of bolting on our cool
parts. Well that just wasnt the case.
We were able to wire up the engine with
Ford Racing Performance Parts easy
install control pak but it was a
challenge to fit the huge wiring harness
and computer in our old Mustang. We also
built the custom console inside the car
from scratch which houses the window
controls and Ride Tech control box. Also
we installed a Vintage Air climate
control unit. www.VintageAir.com Another
unique feature of the car is the rear
seat delete and spare tire mounted in
the back. We knew there wouldnt be
anyone riding back there anyway so we
decided to get the Shelby tray look with
full size spare and Brad at Bonspeed was
happy to sell us 5 rims and not just 4!
Finally we were ready to take Nasty to
get the interior completed and we turned
to Bob Montgomery the owner of a trusted
shop New Castle Auto Upholstery.
www.newcastleupholsteryde.com The guys
at the shop used only the finest leather
and custom made rear quarter panel
covers that also house the rear
speakers. They modified the seats and
gave them a great mustang look with
orange stitching to match the paint.
We debuted the car at the 2011 Detroit
Autorama where Murray Pfaff of Pfaff
Designs hosted the car in his premo
booth. It was a great show where Nasty
took 3rd in class. We were really
surprised and happy with the result
because the car which won class was
polished from one end to another, jacked
up with lights and mirrors underneath.
The car even won a best of show award.
So congrats to them but that isnt the
kind of show we built the car to compete
in. Project Nasty is a beautiful car
but it was built to be driven and
enjoyed out on the open road. Weeks
following the Autorama we were bombing
down the straights at New Jersey
Motorsports Park www.njmp.com at 125 mph
at an Optima Battery Street Car
Challenge Qualifier.
www.optimainvintational.com Thanks to
Bill Howell for putting on a great event
called Run to the Shore.
www.MuscleRides.com We had a great time
and really enjoyed being around guys who
built really cool cars and drive them
too. Unfortunately we could not complete
the event after some tire rub issues and
a bearing noise in the transmission. The
couple sessions we practiced in did show
great promise.
I would like to thank everyone back at
the shop at Christiana Muscle Cars, Inc
www.CMCResto.com There were some long
tough days building this car but now it
is all worth it! Also thanks to
Lateral-g for this feature and thanks to
our friends and sponsors: Ford
Performance Parts / Ride Tech /
BFGoodrich Tires/ Optima Batteries /
BASF / Finishmaster Inc / Bonspeed / New
Castle Auto Upholstery.
