At the
start of this build, it was supposed
to be a casual 30k project. When we
stripped the car down the entire back
end needed to be replaced. While I was
learning how to weld, I was also
putting a package together of my dream
muscle car.
My car background is typically German
cars that weigh a bunch, have a ton of
power. I was a freeway racer for a
number of years, and wanted to make a
freeway dominator. One that wasnt
typically in the high speed street
world.
I knew the Camaro had to have the
power to overcome its weight, and have
the suspension set up to handle the
variables the freeways have to offer.
There were two guys I was gunning for.
One was a low 10 sec Viper that ruled
the freeway, and the other was a
8.99@150 car who was a drag racer, but
ripped off the shop I was apart of. He
claimed his car would do just as well
on the freeway as it does at the drag
strip, so I had to build something
that could give him a run for his
money.
I also wanted to do a few things that
separate my Camaro from the rest of
the Camaro community. I added 1 inch
front and rear to the fender line.
Basically exaggerate the stock body
line. I also wanted to add a diffuser
to the rear. No that it has any
function what so ever, but I thought
it would compliment the reason I built
the car. The hood vents were a must to
blow some air through the engine bay
and keep the temps at bay. The front
lower spoiler was also a must. The
struts were needed to to keep the
spoiler from folding down at high
speed.
We ran the exhaust through the spot
the plate would go. I felt no need for
the plate because the reason I was
building it was to fly down the
freeway. The old street racer in me
said if I was going to get nicked, a
plate wasnt saving me. Since we put
the exhaust there, we had to raise the
tank. We added some flanges to the
Ricks tank and it bolts nice and
neatly to the rear frame rails. I
decided to put the filler neck on the
quarter panel for ease of refueling.
Shadowman
at Discovery Automotive did the wiring
on the car. It is unbelievable. All
BMW connectors, jus extremely neat and
tidy.
Tony G from Tampa did the final tuning
on the car. It is set up for 2 boost
levels. 8lbs brings 850rwhp and 11lbs
brings 900+ rwhp. Both on 91 oct. I
havent had a chance to throw race gas
in there yet
Well, the 30k budget was dead almost
immediately. I decided to put together
a group of people to see if they would
help out with the build. And the best
of the best came through for me.
Marquez Design in my eyes is simply
the best company ran by the best
people out there. Judas and Pasquel
helped with the interior parts, door
strikers, and tail lights.
I also spoke with Blare at SpeedTech.
He is a serious car guy, and I found
that we could shoot the breeze as if I
had known him for years. Not to
mention the subframe product they have
is awesome. It worked with all the
components like brakes with out a
hitch. Just simple. I will forever
support their product.
Bullseye turbo gave me a great deal on
the turbos. They are from MI and
close to the shop. They took the
engine specs and designed a turbo they
thought would work best, and WOW! They
are unbelievable. Twin 66 mills with a
custom exhaust side. They spool so
quick I dont even bother brake
boosting the car. Each turbo is good
for 750rwhp.
DC Shoes is a company I have been a
pro skateboarder for with for over 13
years. I wanted to get them involved.
They were happy and helped fun a
portion. In return I put the logo in
the stripes. They didnt know I was
going to get that crazy with it, but I
have a lot of dc pride.
IForged wheels came through with some
bad ass Neos. They have stood some
serious abuse. And abuse with 900rwhp
is something to be said.
I was nervous about debuting the car
at SEMA. I didnt know if it was going
to be accepted or not. But the
response has been insane. It was voted
2nd best car at SEMA by WEBRIDES TV. I
was stoked.
Back at home I encountered the Viper I
was so ready to race. We ran from
50-180+ mph a few times. The Camaro
performed great! The power delivery
and the braking from those speeds was
perfect. The Camaro put a few car
lengths on him, and for some reason
after 15 years of racing illegally,
beating him has tamed my desire to hit
the freeways Needless to say I lost
almost all desire to street race since
that day..
Now I just hit the curvy roads and
bang some Son of Tranzilla 6 speed
gears to satisfy my desire for speed.
You can catch this Camaro tooling
around SoCal. And yes, I decided to
mount a license plate on the rear deck
lid just for the peski po po!!
The car was built in house at All
Speed Customs in Muskegon Mi by
myself, Brian Moat, and my man Paul.
Great group of guys!! It took 7 months
with the 3 of us on it non stop till
late night every day.
