I knew the direction I wanted to take with the car, but I needed to get something in viewable form, so I contacted Jason Rushforth for a rendering. Jason came up with a few ideas, which helped me decide exactly what I wanted. Jason was also helpful in getting ideas on smaller aspects of the vehicle.

As a fan of Smokey Yunick, I want the car to have a look similar to Smokeys infamous 66 Chevelle. Not a recreation or tribute in anyways, just an overall look, with a few details similar to Smokeys car.

To set it apart from most other Chevelles, the car had to be mini tubbed. So the rear frame was narrowed three inches per side, as well as being boxed and smoothed. The rear tubs were then widened 3 per side to fit the 12 wide Schott wheels.

I put the body on a rotisserie to remove the factory under coating, cleaned up and smoothed. The firewall was smoothed and wiper motor was relocated to under the drivers side fender. Custom built radiator close out, and core support / radiator cover. Filled out front upper control arm openings. Raised transmission mission tunnel to fit the tall T56 transmission. Smoothed underside of the hood. Fabricated Smokey Yunick style cowl plenum induction.

The factory dash pad, climate controls, radio, and switches were removed. The stock gauge panel removed, and replaced with fabrication gauge housing to fit the SW Performance gauges. Vintage Air controls and vents located under the dash in a separate panel to keep the dash as clean as possible. EZ Wire harness.

After all the body and fabrication was done, Rich Mutert took over the bodywork and paint. Lucky for me the best painter in the area happens to be my brother. Even though all the panels are original, many hours were needed to get the gaps better, and the panels strait. Then we choose a custom gold for the top. The body received a layer of clear, then sanded, and then another layer of clear was applied, followed by the final cut and buff to remove any clear coat ripples. Underside of body, underside of front fenders, and the underside of the wheelhouses are all base coat/clear black. Engine, top of front fenders, dash and engine surroundings were painted using a flat clear.

The factory dash pad, climate controls, radio, and switches were removed. The stock gauge panel removed, and replaced with fabrication gauge housing to fit the SW Performance gauges. Vintage Air controls and vents located under the dash in a separate panel to keep the dash as clean as possible. Hushmat controls the sound deadening.

The car was taken to my parents upholstery shop. I wanted a vintage appearing interior, so they covered the modified factory bench in leather. As well as the door panels. The headliner was done in ultra leather. Soff Seal rubber was used.

To keep with Smokey Yunick Chevelle look, I built a 498 BBC. Edelbrock heads and intake. Scat rotation assembly.

Suspension consists of SC&C upper control arms in the front. Edelbrock control arms in the rear. Edelbrock shocks front and rear. Brakes are Corvette Z06 brakes with 14 rotors front, 13 rear. Moser 12 bolt with 4.11 gears. T-56 trans.

The wheels were chosen for their modern twist on an vintage wheel. Wheels are Schott Velocity 19x8 and 20x12 . 245/35 19 335/30 20 Michelin tires.
