Nigel's 69 Camaro

It was originally a cortez silver, 396, SS, 4 speed car. It's got 42,000 original miles on it & has spent all it's life in this country as a drag car. It was owned by Chris Guy from Cardiff (approx 10 miles from me). A few years ago he decided to restore it & use it as a street car. The whole car was dismantled totally, with the front subframe, suspension etc being sent away for media blasting & subsequently rebuilt with all new eurthane bushes, discs, calipers shocks etc. Every nut & bolt is stainless ( he worked in a stainless steel supplier which obviously came in handy!!) the rear end has been stripped blasted & repainted & has aluminum drums, new leaf springs, shocks etc. The whole of the underbody has been stripped & painted satin black. After doing all this work, Chris lost interest when it came to doing the bodywork & it sat in bare metal for some time. I was offered the car 2 years ago & even put my 'bullnose Trans Am race car up for sale to make room for it. But, at the time I just couldn't bear to sell it, so I didn't pursue the '69 Camaro. A year later, I had a good offer on the T/A & the '69 was still locked away in its garage, so I asked Chris how much he wanted for it & a deal was struck. This time the price was considerably lower than the original asking price as he wanted the garage space to build a train set !!

The car came with new rear 1/4 panels, SS hood & chrome vents, arch trims,
underhood sound deadening, front inner splash guards, radiator support, loads of new badges, trim  items etc etc  The car was loaded up with all the stuff to go with it & it was taken to my parents house for storage until I finished the project I was already working on. Space in my garage at work (I own a bodyshop) is at a premium as we're so busy, so most of this restoration will get done at home. My other project is almost completed now, so as soon as the '69 comes back from the media blasters I'm putting it straight in the garage & getting started on it.  The original plan was to replicate the Penske/Donohue Trans-Am car, but now I've decided to paint it black with dark grey metallic SS hockey stick, underside in Dark grey with suspension in black. I've managed to get an RS grille so it'll probably look like Kris' rendering of Jodys' car. The car will be built to conform to Historic Road Sports rules & will be raced in that class, plus be used for street use.  All of the suspension, brakes etc will be full race spec. The engine will be a fully race built 350 ( the 396 went long ago) & hopefully should provide plenty of fun.
