Filled a 53' truck -- plus another 24' truck - plus left stuff behind that will have to be moved with the house stuff in September. That Chevrolet sign -- the "Brembo Man".... a bunch of tires/wheels... Could have used another 10' or more in length on the second truck. Quote:
We start unloading tomorrow (Friday AM) at 8:30.... 4 movers and a fork lift. Stuff comes out faster than it goes in... Quote:
City said I had to have something to "positively" hold the bottom of the post in case I ran into it. Made sense to me -- So I made something that would positively hold it in place! I just wasn't going to do store bought -- and I wasn't going to do "normal" either.... A plasma cutter -- some plate - and a BurrKing 760..... and Da Dude Got Flamed! http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...x/DSC_2166.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...x/DSC_2692.jpg |

Yeah Wayne they did.... Truck was sitting in front of the shop when I pulled up at 8:30 this morning.... Had a crew of 4 from the movers -- and a big "fork lift" which quit working as he was lifting the gun safe up to the second floor.... It wasn't the right kind of fork lift for what we were doing - so I humped across the street to the motocross shop and asked to borrow their 3 stage straight truck.. i.e.., a normal fork lift -- and by 11:30 the truck was empty and I went to lunch. Sadly - because the bozos (long story) couldn't fit everything in the 53' truck --- the stuff I needed most -- like my air driven engine hoist -- and some super heavy duty dollies are on another truck --- which wastes my weekend -- but it will arrive here Monday late afternoon. So this was stuck -- wouldn't go up - down - forward - backward.... and it has a big ass gun safe on it.... Nobody could make it do anything. Finally after re-starting the machine several times -- it began working again --- got the safe off and I told them not to pick anything up with it again... that's when I borrowed the lift from across the street. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5885.jpg And most everything was loaded in the building.... I had everything palletized or on wheels -- that way I can move stuff around when I want. Left room for the hot rods to be able to park up the middle. I'll be WEEKS if not months putting everything where it needs to be. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5886.jpg |

Oh here! I missed the 'random pictures to fill the void'... part.... here's a random picture. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_0363.jpg |
Okay -- Here's just some random shots of what a mess I'm having to deal with...
The pallet jack I drove 4 hours round trip for yesterday -- is super helpful in allowing me to arrange and rearrange the power equipment before I settle on it's final placement. But when I look around and think of how much stuff there is to do - I want to just close the door and go drive the '32! LOL Another 24' foot truckload is coming Monday late afternoon. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5897.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5910.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5901.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5898.jpg |
I love setting up a new shop. It's a lot of work, but there's something cool about starting with a blank space and figuring out where everything is going to go.
:hairpullout:   |
That stuff isn't going to leave the pallets for weeks
|
Looks like you are going to have to add an addition for all your stuff!!
|
Gets small real fast!!!

Within the next hour I'll have at least one post of the lift upright and ready to drill concrete.... I don't nap in the afternoons dude! Quote:
Oh just hell no! Place is too big! <<<< Famous last words. Quote:
Stuff expands to fill the space allotted to it. No matter how big you have - you can fill it and beyond. |

Man I love busting your balls :lmao: |

Tried to send you text message verifying post in the air - but it wouldn't send so I sent it to siege and he can verify that he got it a 1:00 MST. Which would be NOON his time. |

Funny cause I was just thinking of that. Even checked my phone for photographic evidence....:whistling: Honestly though......to bad your so far away. Otherwise I'd be helping you out. |

I needed you TODAY!! So when something weighs like 1800 pounds -- one guy can't budge it even if it's on dollies... and the lift is on TWO dollies and it just seems to always be in the way... So -- WTF!! One way to get it out of my way! Set it up! First I had to drag it into position using the truck. LOL http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5912.jpg Then you bust out the 24' ladder so you can hump a chain to the rafters.... 12' chain goes up first - then go back down and get the 20' chain hoist - and hump that up and hang it... http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5913.jpg Then you start yarding chain! One thing I learned from the last time I did this - and gouged the floors --- I put a small dolly under the dragging end -- keeps it from digging up the concrete! http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5914.jpg Then you have to anchor it and plumb it TWO ways... then put the top on which is another hoist job... Then repeat the process! http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5920.jpg Once everything is plumb and blah blah blah --- now you can start with the Red Head anchors -- drilling 3/4" X 7" holes in the concrete. So much fun!! But the old dude FTW! |

That's the only reason I bought the building - because of the matching colors..... |
Please tell me you weren't alone in the shop doing all that...?!? (oh wait, my dumba$$ did the same thing...)

Well ---- I looked around --- and I didn't see anyone with their hand up. And it won't get done unless the old man gets his sorry butt busy. So here's the way I played it today. I woke up around 6AM -- while making coffee... I decided that I should make Creamy Scalloped ham and potatoes... so made that (yes from scratch - this ain't hard to do with like 5 ingredients) and baked it while enjoying the sun peaking over the mountains. That way -- since Gwen is in Seattle -- and I have no Stella (dog) and it's just me -- I could work as long as I wanted and know at the end of the day I was going to eat like a pig. DONE. Right now though - I can barely muster the energy to pick up the TV controller. |
I'm starting to like this GregWeld guy!

what's that Tobi Keith song " I aint as good as I once was" My how the years have gone.
That's my kind of work moving that heavy stuff around, when I started working construction my first boss said as long as you remember I'm the boss your the horse we'll get along fine! In his southern draul... |

Which part?? The eating like a pig? Quote:
When I finally hit the hay last night I was thinking --- I put the first lift up 9 years ago -- what a difference 9 years makes! The other thing I was thinking yesterday - as I ascended the ladder once again.... how many people in my position would just "have all this done"... but then they miss out on the satisfaction at the end of the day looking around and saying "dude! I kicked some ass today!"  Quote:
Should rename this thread -- "The moving blog". Stay tuned as we watch paint dry... and the learn the mysteries of the pallet jack. |
This is when he starts looking for the Advil...
