i dont think the concern is that the coilover brackets will bend its that the whole frame is pushing up against the frame rails and inner fenders or that the weight of the car is forcing down (same thing) whereas the original torsion bars move all the forces back to the torque boxes where there is a lot more structural strength, i have no personal thing against rms , infact when i start my mopar it will more than likely have one as i cant afford an xv system but i will also fit chassis connectors so as to make a continuous rail front to back to help it out. maybe this is why the general lees always folded up so easily!!lol, i dont think anyone is out to diss any companies product but i also think it is a legitimate concern especially as there are more than a few crusty frame rails out there and there are some really sharp minds on this site so between everyone we should be able to get it sorted so we can all put any possible issues to rest.

I've never heard anything bad about the RMS, but as said it does put the stress on the rails. The best system in my eyes is the XV, they have extra tubes inserted in the rails to stiffen it up and they have developed a front end stiffening kit that IMO should be a part of the XV Lvl II front suspension package. Anyone that want to educate themselfs on Mopar coilover systems should read this entire thread: http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/...rt=&PHPSESSID= |
there are alot of different subframes or k-frames out on the market. like most people I build my cars to drive not race, the cost of xv just wasnt in the budget I build my cars to have fun and sell so the cost does come into the whole aspect of things and if I have to choose between total race performance or drivability I choose drivablility how many times are you going to race your car? maybe at a goodguys autocross? around here theres not many places to autocross so my cars are built for looks and definatly some performance but not for full on race cars. I highly doubt that what the normal driver does with these cars would cause them to calapse unless there a total rust bucket that wasnt fixed right. You could also build a front hoop out of roll cage tube, come off of the firewall and run it just behind the rad. support, that would be pretty easy and I think theres plenty of room for it. telly

trunk progress
Getting some more progress, this was my first attempt at custom interior work I think it turned out pretty good. Next I'll make a new center counsel.

Any updates?
What a/c system are you using? I noticed you had the condenser mounted vertically, and not horizontally as vintage air states. I'm really not sure, maybe they can go either way. |

Any reason for picking Southern Auto Air? I planned on going with Classic auto Air over "others." I was told it fits the best....any opinions?
Very nice ride...hope my '71 is up to par.. |
