Man, that house looks awesome!!

Over here you actually end up with TWO roofs --- one that is insulated and then a COLD ROOF above that. They need to keep the snow etc ON the roof so it needs to have ambient air temps circulating under it so the snow doesn't melt (then it would turn to ice - cause ice dams at the leading edge and crawl up under the shingles) === so that's a giant venting system along the ridge. Over here -- your gutters and downspouts are HEATED. |

There's about 1400 MILES of mountain bike trails here... Every conceivable kind of riding you'd ever want - including SNOW TIRED bikes people ride on the trails in winter... There's far less Road Bike trails here. This is a MAJOR bike community... Bike shops are 1 per 20 residents.... LOL Seriously I'm not far off... maybe it's more like 1 store per 200 residents as there's at least 10 bike shops here.... You see car loads of people with bikes stuck on them every way you can mount one (or several). They come to the area specifically to ride... whether it's a road bike up and over Galena Pass -- or the 7 zillion trails from beginner to Pro level. |

Here is the location listed in all of my 15,000+ posts..... Sun Valley Idaho Quote:
Front door.... non view side.... Guests can each enter their suites thru their own doors and patios.... as we can our bedroom as well... and a man door into the garage. There are 5 garage spaces --- three "normal" oversized spaces on the non view side for daily driven cars -- and the two spaces with a huge additional space on the view side of the house for hot rods. |

It looks amazing Greg. Maybe sometime I can fly out to see it. Maybe I could cut the grass to pay for my room and board......

Only if you promise to leave Curtis home! BTW - Only broken bone(s) I've ever had... summer of 1980 while moving into a new house the neighbor girls (about 7 years old) were skating in the street and I kept telling them "wait til I unpack my skates...". When I did - I made it down the driveway and into the street and made part of a turn before I broke my ankle in 3 places. Her Dad had to take me to the Bronxville hospital because we didn't even know where a hospital was. Went to her wedding... and we're still friends with the parents after all these years. Quote:

Summer home?:poke:  Holy Shi-zzzzzzzz batman, nice cave....Now why couldn't you have built your shop on the property near the house? Access issues? Nice place Greg, you've outdone yourself:thumbsup: |
I heard Gates bought the hillside next to you?

Not a summer home Lenie -- our home - period. Sold the Bellevue place in May (it was on the market for 2 hours). This will be our one and only. We're really not into second homes. I'd rather go all over the place than "have" to go because you own somewhere else. Quote:
He tried but couldn't afford it. LOL +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ |
Lenie -- I forgot to answer your question about why not build the shop on site.
We invested heavily in Architect fees etc to do just that - and in the end - when the work went to bid - the shop being on site under the house - added too much cost vs value... So I just bought the commercial building in this thread (for about 1/3rd the cost of having it under the house. While the lot for the house is 1.6 acres -- the building envelope is actually only 18,000 square feet... and much of it is just too steep to get access to. The fire department has say so over such things. They will not allow more than 10% grade... and the driveway must be 20' wide for fire truck access - and once we try to get up to where a shop would be --- the cost of moving dirt is just absolutely prohibitive. The soils here are described as "cleetchy" and are not suitable to use elsewhere - so they must be hauled off site. We are already moving 20,000 cubic yards of material - that's 2000 dump truck loads - and they calculate "truck miles" to be 46,000 miles of round trips to dump the soil. I'm not adding to that bill!!! Stick a fork in me - I'm done!! LOL |

The "shed" is looking great Greg!!! I love setting up a new place. Seeing all of the barn wood you have in there reminds me of a cabinet job we just did. Here's one of the cabinets. Reclaimed wood from Montana.
https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/90...901/CgGLlc.jpg If you ever need any cabinets for the shed (or that other "shed" you're building lol )I'm your man  |

WOW! Those are pretty kool!! We're not going that rustic.... and the builders brother is a local high quality cabinet maker. How convenient is that? LOL We actually haven't even figured all the finishes etc out yet. We're pretty sure we're going to use "salt wood" out of Salt Lake... there's a guy down there laying the wood out in the salt and sun (30 acres of it) and it's easier to work with since it's actually dimensional. |
Thanks Greg! I never figured you'd go that rustic in your house. :confused18: we haven't done too many of those. Thought they'd look good in the shed though. I haven't heard of the "salt wood" before. I'd like to see pics of that when you get going. Oh and the brother thing is convenient. if you ever got a question or need an opinion on anything to do with the cabinets I'd be glad to help. Been doing cabinets for 35 years

Anything going on in the "shed" Greg?
Haven't seen any updates. :goggles: |

I just haven't had time to get much done down there -- just little stupid things. I've had way too many mid day meetings with architects - designers - bankers - insurance brokers - and keeping Stella happy with hikes... Had to finally call in the troops and have my air lines run by the plumber even! This is something I've always done myself - but I need air to function and can't seem to find a day or two where I can get 'er done. Had to bust out the hand files to make a post mount for one of the regulators before they could plumb to it. Got to fire up the MIG machine and make a half a dozen tack welds even!! WHOOOO HOOOOOOO. Since I still haven't hooked up the giant sucker machine to the "dirty/dust makers" -- I don't want to run the Burr King etc... so will get that done next === then I'll be somewhat functional. Toss in two trips this month -- and not much more will advance. Oh -- and 3 full wasted days in a effort to get the '33 road worthy.... UGH! Tore the '33 apart to try to figure out an overheating - no water circulation issue - NO IT IS NOT AN AIR LOCK.... http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_6402.jpg Made a minimal mount for a regulator..... using crude hand tools - they work amazingly well you know... lots of people forget how effective they can be. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_6461.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_6463.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_6465.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_6469.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_6472.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_6473.jpg I thought this was an appropriate sign given the pile beneath it. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_6411.jpg I managed to find some more "wall of shame" items and got them hung..... http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_6323.jpg Appropriate "tool" -- the old get a bigger hammer.... I get a bigger wrench!! http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_6327.jpg Managed to add a couple more pairs of skis for this winter.... new powder boards and while I was shopping a half price pair of turn producers.... http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_6314.jpg In between all of the above mentioned drivel --- I managed to get rid of a couple vehicles in exchange for a more appropriate Sun Valley "rig".... and take it out to the high country. In other words -- a little break for some fun... Since it's in front of the shed - it's appropriate to post... LOL http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...p/IMG_6415.jpg See it in action here.... http://s919.photobucket.com/user/gre...?sort=3&page=1 |
Since I sold my Tahoe and Trailer my wife agreed we need a Jeep. What size are the Wheels & Tire and was there a lift kit installed.
ps the pictures of your off road journey are fantastic. Quote:

Marty --- This is Jeeps "AEV" version --- so it has the JK350 AEV conversion...
American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) This is their 3.5" lift... with the 35" tire. Check out their website. Love the ride and the handing is great given the aggressive tires. It's quite - solid - and the Rubicon version I have has the front and rear lockers on a button and a sway bar disconnect on a button.... and the hill holder button works fantastically! I know nothing about off road stuff... but it was fun to do this trip -- and the Jeep worked just as advertised --- and I drove it home at 75 MPH when I was finished rock pounding off roading. Gotta love that! Quote:
