So, how about an update......and let me go ahead and say it this way....

Trouble maker!! Don't you have a road trip to write about... :>) <Rustling around in his bag> Nothing really has changed that much. November was a busy month with SEMA -- My 35th Anniversary -- and TurkeyDay travels etc. But I did start to piece together something I've always wanted in my sheds - a dirty room vacuum system for the grinding and dirt making area. This is 6" "Nordfab" industrial piping -- that goes up thru the concrete floor and connects to a big ass dust collector that is remote controlled. I had to stop and order another $3K worth of pipe and fittings when my design idea got "added to". I needed some T's -- and more reducers etc. They were ordered last week and should arrive shortly. Nordfab has a great website and you can order this stuff directly from them. I decided in the interest of safety that I should include their spark arrestor and I wanted to add a floor sweep and on and on. WTF - go big or go home! LOL http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_6818.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_6821.jpg Lots of parts and pieces -- but like everything I do -- not always the RIGHT parts and pieces to complete the job!! http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_6819.jpg PS --- I HATE the painted floors!! Drop one thing - that's a week looking around trying to find it. UGH!! Since I live high in the mountains and it gets REALLY cold here -- it was very nice to be able to use my indoor mixing valve to have warm water and be able to wash the Jeep INDOORS! There is a big ass drain (more for snow melting off vehicles) in the floor.... works like a charm!!! I'm so glad I had the plumber put this in. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_6801.jpg I'd also ordered a few more 1 ton 30' chain hoists for making better use of the "free" sky in the old shed! The stuff I don't use often is being hung up there. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_6797.jpg |

I love how you have been able to section off and add the vacuum system. I wish I had that in my little garage for when I am working on the Chevelle. Would definitely keep other parts cleaner. An love the fact that you can wash the Jeep inside. I'm sure that is the bomb right there. As always, I'm envious. |
The floor sweep was a good move.......they are without a doubt the best part of the central vac system in my house.

looks like you can start building cars any time now :underchair:
going to have to make a road trip and check it out. maybe some skiing??? |

I'm not ready yet -- and not sure what my next project will be or if there will even be one... but I'm enjoying putting this dump together a little bit here and a little bit there. I am looking around and thinking to myself -- WOW! This is the best place I've ever had -- yet I have nothing going on. (to those that don't understand/know me - this is my own personal shop - I don't do anything commercially). I've skied twice so far --- we had a great start - then it got warm and it's been melting during the day and freezing up at night - makes for hard icy base just under the 2" of groomed corduroy the machines make. That's all gone after two runs and you're down to the ice. We need some fresh snow for sure --- and hell yes we need company!! Will I see you at GNRS?? |
hmmm Greg, maybe you should consider going into production, my car can be your first victim.... would hate to have that beautiful shop sitting all empty and no projects going on inside it! Heck maybe I should move there and we could partner up. this farming thing is getting old. ps. when we are on road trips in the rig I could drive it for you!:drive: Quote:

Hmmmmmm..... Here's the thing. For 20 some odd years I've gotten up every morning and asked myself "what do I want to do today" -- and the answer was always the same "whatever I feel like". That would NOT include having to deal with customers, or deadlines, or someone else's hopes and dreams! LOL |
You just crushed my hopes and dreams.
Bye the way the mustang looks awesome in that pic. |

The best thing I ever STOLE from Charley!! LOL http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/DSC_4738.jpg |
Yeah that thing is awesome!
I have never seen the specs on the mustang, what are they? sorry for changing gears on your shed thread. |

I can hear the wheat growing..... LOL The Mustang is 580HP on 110 race gas.... and weighs in at 2975 pounds with me in it (IIRC). Runs a Jerico 4 speed. Full floater rear end on leaf springs and bearings (mono composite leaf custom for this car) and a Maier track bar set up. Power rack and pinion steering - Chris Alston stuff - custom upper control arms and big ass Howe ball joints with custom built spindles using big race bearings. Triple adjustable JRi Shocks that are custom valved for this car. 18" Formula 43 wheels with Hoosier A7's. The custom stuff and settings are all thanks to RON SUTTON RACE TECHNOLOGIES. |

The mustang sounds like it has been well thought out and would be a lot of fun. But what do I know? |
Quote:
As it is here!! The Mustang was a nice track day car -- and with the help of Ron Sutton it's now a much MORE FUN track day car. He thought it out -- I just paid for it and get in the seat and enjoy the magic he created for me. |

On Mt Hood - fresh snow was called Cascade Concrete (so wet and heavy)... Sun Valley is normally very dry light snow and SUN SHINE and blue sky skiing. It's early so we'll just go with it. It will return to normal (I hope). |
I grew up skiing in Colorado, back in 1994 I won a trip to Lake Placid in upstate NY. We got there late one night and overnight 8" of fresh snow fell...I was stoked to go skiing the next day. We get up on the mountain...and I notice right away that they've groomed the WHOLE FREAKING MOUNTAIN!!! There wasn't a speck of powder to be found anywhere. :headscratch:
By noon, every slope had turned into a sheet of ice and did I mention it was about 4 degrees that day. Now, I'm used to skiing til the last run of the day...but that was on good snow and with a lift ticket I paid for. We bailed about 1 pm that day...way too dangerous skiing conditions, way too cold and too many good free adult beverages in the lounge. |

Cold weather sucks !

Love the mustang Greg and the Burr King :-). I have got to get me one eventually. The dust collection will be one of the best things you have done.
|

Best gaps on any car at the track!! LOL The Burr Kings are a must own if you're going to work much metal. They're just the work horses of the shop. My old shop was 1500 sq feet -- didn't take long to clean it up... this one takes me half a day just to vacuum the floor... so now keeping it clean has become a priority! |
I moved here in MAY.... and I just finally got around to working on the upstairs stuff... unpacked the last box yesterday! Gawd I hate moving! I'll never do it again!
There's so much stuff a guy collects over the years it's just stupid! Easy if you stay in one place and just add to the pile of S....t as you go.... not so easy to move it all at once. Don't tell anyone - but some of this stuff was a little "dirty" too... So now as I find it's permanent home I'm dusting and windexing and polishing. I should be by this time next year <shoothing self in head>. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/DSC_4754.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/DSC_4748.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/DSC_4744.jpg |
Coming together GW.
When's Charlie gonna move his stuff out? :bump: |
Wow - -that is coming together really nicely. That is going to be a great place to hang out..........have a beer, look out over your shop.............. and think about all of the stuff you should be doing on your projects instead of relaxing and having a beer!
Seriously though that is COOL! |
If I was still in the rug business...........I would have shipped you one by now.
|
It looks like you'll have a nice comfortable space for yourself when your done setting it all up. Especially when you need a brake from the projects you can go upstairs and beat up on the drums.

They empty the dumpster every week. I waited for him but he never came by! Quote:
You know the problem with "space" and the crap that fills it up.... Now I just need to make some new friends over here!! Sitting up there by yourself sucks! Quote:
HEY!! We bought that rug about 1976 or so... and it's still being used. So WTF. Ask me if I care about matching... (the answer is showing in the picture I guess!). Quote:
Like a chimpanzee..... or so the song goes! |
Mark my words, when I move this year there will be one of those big orange dumpsters out in front of this joint.

Yeah TC!!
I still have my McIntosh C26 from like 1972.... don't use it, but it's sitting there... Run a MC 7108 amp via a MX132 preamp/AV controller.... and B&W CDM1's and a pair of B&W bookshelf's for rears... can't remember what they are. Not bad music for down at the shop. The other two pieces are unused - it's a CR 12 Multi Zone controller and the above mentioned C26 preamp. |

I've "pared" the collection down while unpacking this time Todd... if it's not a real memory or of some real value (to me) I've tossed it. Trying to "de-clutter" and not have like everything I ever touched that had something to do with a car on the walls. Keeping it more "art" (in the beholders eyes) and the good stuff. |

Ha! You should have been on the "albums" and turntable text train the other day... what a hoot pulling out all that old stuff! |

Early '70's Bob Carver started a company called Phase Linear -- before Carver stuff ever existed. He had "Quadraphonic" preamps and amps up in the Seattle area. I still remember going up there to see what was what - and smoking a doob with him and a group of engineers... listening to their latest 400 Watt amp... You needed TWO of the amps to do "quadraphonic" and I couldn't afford TWO so I bought one and the Phase Linear 4000 Preamp... and then the coupe d'gras was the TEAC 3340 10" reel to reel that was 4 channel Quadraphonic. I blew up more speakers than I care to remember with that big ass amp!! Nobody had that kind of power back then - and the speakers just couldn't handle it. Even my JBL 99's!! Or the Marantz 7's.... oh man.... I can't believe I can even remember those names! I loved to come home at night and put on some headphones and fire up the Teac deck and watch those reels go round and round. I don't think today you could even buy a reel or the tape!! And the reels had to be aluminum or you just weren't kool! This picture was taken later - because this is the apartment I first had when I moved to New York City in 1976... and if you look closely in this photo you can see the Phase Linear stuff -- and I think that was a Yamaha "tuner". LOL -- Good times back then!! Spaced on why I brought that up! Shortly after I'd bought the Phase Linear and the Teac -- NAKAMICHI (?) came out with a high end "cassette" deck but nobody wanted that new fangled stuff! Who in their right mind would want a "cassette"? Shortly afterwards thats all we had... http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/00000263.jpg |
Love the concrete barbell!

Did your disco line go " come up and see my nakamichi sometime" or was it "it sounds better after my tube warms up??" |
