Ha Ha ... not that one ... but Asleep at the Wheel ... yes sir ... along with a wide range of hard rock, blues, jazz, country, classical and some stuff that didn't really fit in categories. LOL

I bought a 2000 Harley Truck with 20,000 Miles a couple months ago. It has a Factory Cassette & 6 CD Changer. It gave me a chance to dig out my old tunes.

What the Heck was I into?:headscratch:

You needed TWO of the amps to do "quadraphonic" and I couldn't afford TWO so I bought one and the Phase Linear 4000 Preamp... and then the coupe d'gras was the TEAC 4340 10" reel to reel that was 4 channel Quadraphonic. I blew up more speakers than I care to remember with that big ass amp!! Nobody had that kind of power back then - and the speakers just couldn't handle it. Even my JBL 99's!! Or the Marantz 7's.... oh man.... I can't believe I can even remember those names!

I loved to come home at night and put on some headphones and fire up the Teac deck and watch those reels go round and round.

I don't think today you could even buy a reel or the tape!! And the reels had to be aluminum or you just weren't kool!

This picture was taken later - because this is the apartment I first had when I moved to New York City in 1976... and if you look closely in this photo you can see the Phase Linear stuff -- and I think that was a Yamaha "tuner". LOL -- Good times back then!!

Spaced on why I brought that up! Shortly after I'd bought the Phase Linear and the Teac -- NAKAMICHI (?) came out with a high end "cassette" deck but nobody wanted that new fangled stuff! Who in their right mind would want a "cassette"? Shortly afterwards thats all we had...

Looks like a Yamaha Receiver - you could actually use them as a Pre-Amp.

I've got one of those Fancy High-End Cassette Decks - it was over $1200 in in 1978 Dollars!

I remember looking at the Carver amps back in about 87 and wanting one but they were out of my range so I ended up with Luxman which was good stuff also the cassette player I bought was like 800.00 and honestly sounded better than the optical output on the CD player . Now I have a Samsung smart phone that somehow makes music come out of built in speakers???? lol

You must be posting in the wrong thread.... Or you're going to have to show me where you saw the Jetta.

69hugger 01-19-2015 08:33 AM

A big question back then was whether TEAC was pronounced "TEEK", or "TEE-ACK". The store sales guys all had the answer, and of course, they were right.

Kind of like Porsche....one syllable or 2?

But I digress...

It all started when we bought a condo here a couple years ago... We're living in it now. Well - truth be known - I spend most of the time either up on the hill sliding down - or at the shop. Gwen and Stella have the condo.

I had 2 Reel to Reels ( bought used) that never really worked right, but sounded great when they did. One came with a bunch of Tapes - one was "Rush 2112". I had never heard of them, but was mezmerized!

Out in the Garage tonight - my Cheap System ( 1 of 4 in the House & Garage, used to have one playing in the Storage Shed). Analog sounds so much better than Digital!

SVPN (Sun Valley Property News) - a magazine that is really only about real estate advertising.. but is nicely done.... did an article for the upcoming Sun Valley Road Rally. SV Road Rally is mostly Bugatti's and Porsches trying to run as fast as they can for top speed... With a "car theme" for this quarter - they did a photo shoot of the shop... and like most of these things - the discussion was much more "in depth" but they cut and paste and leave most on the floor.

Anyway -- if anyone is interested... You click this link -- then click on the July issue (with the Porsche on the cover) .... click on it again and it goes full screen - then scroll along the bottom to find the article found on Page 120

Cool story Greg. The shop looks great.

Che70velle 07-04-2015 11:26 AM

Very nicely done, Mr. Weld. Should have had Stella in there somewhere...

SSLance 07-04-2015 12:20 PM

Very cool piece, nicely done Greg.

Any idea if they've fixed the "people moving issues" that they had in past road rally events there?

Good question Lance -- and all I can say is "I sure hope so"!!! They should have learned something from last years mess. But then - that's making a big ASSumption that management paid attention and took action.

I'm not going anywhere near the event this year... Frankly - it's pretty boring after the first couple of cars. It's really much more of a participation event than it is for a spectator.
