Looks great Dave!!! Inspiring to say the least! Maybe now with baseball officially done and my coaching hats are hanging up - I'll blow the dust off mine again and get working on it again. LOL! I still need to come by and check it out. Congrats again!

Nice job Dave!!!
you changing out the wheels?? |
Thanks to all you guys for the nice compliments. It all helps keep me motivated.
Steve, I'd like to change them. Seeing them going down the road made me really like them, but I'd rather get some Boze, Budnik, or Rushforth wheels for the car. All three make some wicked wheels and I'd like to support the vendors if I can. The current wheels were a fortune so it's hard to let them go. Tonight we met with the Interior guy- Dave Putnam in Orangevale. Dave is a genius with the stitch and jus ta super nice guy. He's taking the car in three weeks. That gives me just enough time to get the speakers in, make the console, get the power windows in, and fab up the sub box. One thing I did learn is that I won't use Lizard Skin again. It was a pain to spray on and ultimately doesn't seem to work too well. I put 5 mils on the bottom and 5 inside. Ceramic heat barrier on the exhaust side and ceramic and sound inside. After just a few minutes of running the car, the floor was hot- like holy crap hot. I laid down some Fatmat on the tunnel and that fixed the issue. It's just a superior way to dampen sound and combat heat- at least that's my experience. |
This weekend was a stereo install extravaganza. First my brother built this box for the one 10 inch Fosgate we are running behind the rear seat and over the diff. It fits pretty snug in that space. We are using two Fosgate Prime amps- one 4 channel for the speakers, and one single 250W for the sub. The head unit is a Secret Audio thing that seems to be ok so far. I'm really only using it to 0fill the hole in the dash and its iphone connection. We made a package tray out of 1/4 inch and mounted the two Prime 6X9s. It'll be covered in foam and leather when completed. The fronts are Fosgate Prime 5 1/2s in the lower section of the doors. I'm not an audiophile, but things thing is unreal for 5 speakers. I can't believe how loud and clean it sounds. I'm happy.
The console was next. This thing ate 6 hours of time today. We made almost every panel twice and ended up with a pretty clean little box. Tomorrow we will cover it and give it a resin bath so to make it strong. It seems to fit really well. The power window switches are in the center. Hopefully the upholstery guy doesn't laugh at me lol. http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps09ab211e.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps6b56f2ed.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps01f15108.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...psb20fb538.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps6b5aa5fb.jpg |
You ever spend 9 hours in your garage just to spend another 9 hours the next day undoing what you did the day before? Yeah, that was our weekend.
We were finally able to get the doors, fenders, and hood installed. The countless hours of panel alignment two years ago paid off in dividends Saturday. The doors shut really nicely and the gaps look really crisp. Unfortunately we burned the hood down the center while attacking a small run and ended up putting a small dent in it as well. Yeah that sucked because this color is so difficult to play with. After my crying spell, I shut the hood onto the air box and scratched it on the outer curve. Neat. The interior is done but the door panels are off for glass adjustment. I could not be happier with the work Dave did and his fast service. In total he finished the car in 27 days and it's beautiful and comfortable. What more could you ask for? The stance is a mess so the spanner will be out tomorrow night. The days to SEMA are counting down so we gotta stay on the gas! http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...psccd0a34a.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps380d01fc.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps248d5246.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...psa3389c17.jpg |
Oh man that sucks about the hood. Hopefully it won't set you back to much. Interior looks awesome! It's getting there for sure and will be a great one to check out.

Interior looks awesome Dave!! Sucks about the hood. Fortunately you know a good paint guy!! I'll come by and check it out if you're around this weekend.
|
Great progress Dave, man that looks so nice sitting out in the sun! The interior is awesome as well!! I like the wheels but I get the bad feeling about them.
