charcoal canister
Charcoal canister part number GM17056292. Spoke with Aeromotive about the gas smell problem and a guy that builds high end Willys street rods uses this canister.

Update on this
I had a problem with the fumes initially, and actually built my own charcoal canister with activated charcoal from a pet store. It seemed to work ok, but I was worried about getting enough airflow through it to feed the tank. I had looped some fuel line around to attach to this canister, and once I removed the canister I didn't really sense the smell as much anymore. It seems that looping some 2' or so of fuel line off of the vent tube has cut down the amount of fumes enough for me, and then I don't have to worry about the canister.

Payton - Any idea how big that canister is?

There is an easier solution. GM part# 10033125 is a small pressure valve that goes on the end of your vent line. Simply route the line outside and attach this small approx 1"x 2" valve. I run a orig 62 Rambler tank, in tank fuel pump and sump, stock cap as it is part of body, and this valve. When pressure builds that valve simply lets it out and then shuts again. A simple spring daiphram set up I believe.
Of course it has to be routed outside of the trunk area. Also if you have a trap door to access that tank make sure it is sealed with a gasket when it closes. You should ask them exactly how they want that tank vented as you might collapse it if isn't braced but I am sure it is. Good luck. |
