Depending on what your doing with the fuel tank if your getting the kit $1320 plus a tank $800 its only $500 more to put a quadralink and mini tubs in. Im a DSE dealer if you need any help or the parts.

Just an FYI.
Mounting the leafs so that the front eyes are slightly inboard of the rear eyes will cause the leafs to have more lateral stiffness. This can make the chassis feel tighter and may help prevent the rear suspension from binding due to excessive lateral deflection of the leaf. However, if the leafs are offset too much, the suspension becomes too stiff laterally and rear side bite is lost. Whenever the body slides over the rear end during cornering, the splayed leafs can cause rear steer that will also help the car to turn. Its not always a good idea to lessen and/or eliminate the angle in the springs, front to rear. But... if done with purpose and taking into consideration to what that modification yields... it can work. Remember, the many factors of a leaf spring suspension are interrelated and a change to one aspect of the suspension usually affects others. Consequently, the handling results are not always as predicted! The next issue would be the addition of a lateral locating device, like that of a panhard, j-bar or watts link from the chassis 'loosening up'. |

Wow. That is a scary question.
In a limited travel suspension, a panhard can work... but still has its limitations going into bind outside that window. A j-bar can work as well... but at the sacrifice of OE muffler placement. And lastly, a watts can work with all of what you questioned. Packaging of a 3" system with say... the Lat-D 3 link is a definately possibility. Then again... there is always mandrel bend oval exhaust tubing. ;) |
Thanks Chicane,
I appreciate your knowledge. I have been wondering a lot what do i really really need. So far the car is still on pieces and i do have the 3" drop offset leaf kit from DSE. First questions is do i really need any kind of bar to keep the rear in place when cornering. Stock systems dont have it . But i will have aggressive tire and plan on takeing some track time in future. L-D 3 link is out of question, so is QL . Then there is G-bar wich i am intrested of but then "heard" it might give as low stance as i need. So there are more questions than answers..:willy: |
Am I correct in assuming that the rearend will have to be narrowed a little to run an 11" wheel. Does the kit give you the dimensions needed for the spring perch relocation and amount to narrow or is this all tape measure. Thanks for all the great info.

Minitubs 399 Quadralink + shocks and springs 2195 total 2600 Minitub kit 1382 Shocks 210 total 1600 Approx 1000 difference even factoring in the shocks for the only the minitub... |
I believe he meant if you took into account the cost of a custom narrowed tank that's needed when using the offset shackles, vs. using a totally stock tank with the Q-link.
|
Yes if you figure the narrowed tank into the price. And its not much more work to put the quadralink in.
