It was trick and has some great features, but what I wasn't a big fan of was the digital number displays. You needed to read the numbers and digest the data instead of simply glancing at a needle. I know that sounds odd and a lame excuse, but after years of just being able to glance at a needle and knowing whether things are ok or not, it was an adjustment. That being said, some inputs on the Racepak can be configured to display as an analog (like the tach, speedo), the Racepak looks especially bad ass at night, it's programmable, and it's something that's outside the box.

Pros and cons.

This is what I was looking for.... Yeah I'm not a fan of the digital numbers over gauges, I just like the functionality at the track and the expansion options for data logging.

I think I'm going to go with the regular ole gauge package.

I'm leaning towards the Anvil or Covan Thunder Road dash's. Both are around $250 or so.

I can't believe DSE charges $575 for their aluminum dash.:_paranoid

Had both, prefer gauges by a long shot.

Gauges get my vote. What is the difference between a regular Covans, and a thunder road?

I like the Racepak and what it offers....and it's a real clean install, I like that a lot!! But I have to admit that I favor gauges...for the reasons Scott stated. Never been a fan of digital gauges...but again I do like what the Racepak and the like offer!

My vote......analog.

Regular Covans are known for their crap quality. John Covan moved on from the company and started a new company where he could control quality. I submitted a request for pricing on a blank 1969 dash and got a personal phone call from the man within an hour.

He said hes working on getting a quality product out there. Thunder road is his new line...

Not to split hairs, but the DSE dash is made of 18 guage steel, and you really cant compare it to covans. I have a covans in my 67, its plastic ka ka, fit was horrible and when the guages went in and tightened up, the plastic started to twist a bit causing the guages to kind of point outward.

I recently picked up a DSE dash for my new 69 build its a quality piece, that becomes kind of a structural part of the whole dash assembly. Looked like theres a fair amount of tig welding that goes into the fab of that part, it certainly has a lot of bends in it.

Love my DSE dash. I like the capabilities of the race pack, but like the race look of the dse dash and the huge 5 inch gauges.

I don't auto-x, nor want to, but that may change in the future.
I like the set up the Reggie has in his Camaro and Todd's set up. Both look very clean. (But then again, I may be biased. I love Todd's car!!)lol:lol: :_paranoid

No doubt its an insanely nice piece. Its also the most elegant and simple of them. Keep in mind when I refer to Covan's I'm not referring to the old "Covan's Classic" line of parts. John abandoned that company after it was bought from him and quality went to hell. I'm referring to Covan's new company. Higher quality product...
