Todays update :-)
After I got the frame back we had to blast it once more to get it ready for the epoxy coating. This was done the other day, and today we applied the first layer of epoxy.
A friend of mine are in the offshore business and does paintjobs on large tankers and freightvessels. He knows a few things about epoxy and polyurethan coatings. He got me some of the stuff he uses, and it's certified for use 9000 feet below the surface... We will apply apx 4-5 layers and then cover it with a black polyurethane coating. http://www.americanperformance.no/mo...me_paint01.jpg http://www.americanperformance.no/mo...me_paint02.jpg http://www.americanperformance.no/mo...me_paint03.jpg http://www.americanperformance.no/mo...me_paint04.jpg http://www.americanperformance.no/mo...me_paint05.jpg |
WOW... almost a shame to cover that oxide red epoxy... just gives it a real buisness only look... love the frame btw, (and nothing beats that kind of dicsount on paint btw.. :-) )

Suspension update...
The Global West stuff and the QA1 coilovers arrived the other day, early x-mas in Norway :)
I did not know that the difference between the a-arms from different manufacturers were so big... I compared the Global West a-arms with the Air Ride ones, and DAMN.... The Global West a-arms are much more solid than the Air Ride a-arms, and the lower a-arms are twice as thick as Air Rides a-arms... Take a look at the pictures : http://www.americanperformance.no/mo...r_vs_gw_01.jpg http://www.americanperformance.no/mo...r_vs_gw_02.jpg http://www.americanperformance.no/mo...r_vs_gw_03.jpg |
Wow that difference is huge in those arms! And that frame just looks awesome in that epoxy red.

Great job
It is nice to come into a post that has been going on for some time and see the progress you have made.
What a great job it looks like you have done. The Hogan intake gives me wood.... |
Brimstone
I saw your Chevelle at Good Guys Scottsdale. I took a ton of pictures. I thought someone would come over and introduce themselves and tell me about the car but no such luck. I hope my 67 sits as low as yours... Mick |

Chassimounts & Ford Moser 9"
I've been quite busy the last weeks and haven't had time to work on the project as much as I wanted too :-(
Some of the chassimounts were rusted and the steel was very thin around the holes. I decided to cut out the old steel and weld in new fresh material. Parts from NPD arrived a two weeks ago with new hood, inner/outer fenders, rear wheelhousings and trunk lid. I have new quarterpanels and doors ready :-) Hopefully I will get some work done on the body within the next weeks. I must say I'm very curious if the sheetmetal fits OK... Time will show! The Moser Ford 9" axle comes in bare-steel finish, so I have put on some epoxy on it. I've decided to paint the chassi and rearaxle AFTER we are finished with the bodywork. http://www.americanperformance.no/mo...simounts_3.jpg http://www.americanperformance.no/mo...simounts_4.jpg http://www.americanperformance.no/mo...simounts_6.jpg http://www.americanperformance.no/mo...simounts_7.jpg http://www.americanperformance.no/mo...simounts_9.jpg |

Tubing size
Back from the dead...but
I'd like to do something similar to my chassis on my 71 chevelle. Does anyone happen to know what type of tubing is suggested? DOM? ERW? And roughly what size tubing would you think he used? Thanks, Kyle:thumbsup: |
