Ok eye was given clean bill of health now back onto the build ..12/7/08 update finally got the body mounted to the frame and now its a roller again ..first mounted the pass rocker then i fabbed up the dropped crossmember mounts ..1/8th plate and i cut up a piece of frame into 4 pieces and welded to the rockers for the rear..as for the front i made up some 1/8th plate mounts for the firewall so i could mount some roll bar to front frame ..at the moment this will support the front until i make the headers and exhaust then i will tie the frame to the rockers..anyway here are some progress pics....

Man that's awesome!!!!!!!! Nice to see a stang gettin' done!!!! Looks like you're gonna have a killer stance. Probably get another 2" of rubber back there???!

Barry,
Good work and I love the common man garage build. This is proof that it can be done. You are doing a very good job and keep it up!!! I hope the eye is ok. All it takes is one time " been there done that" to experience that and from there on you'll always wear good eye protection. I really like the 69 Fastback,:hail: it'll make a killer PT car. Keep us posted on the build and be safe!!! -Dave |
Ok parts and material showed up yesterday ,I got the roll bar in need to finish boxing in the lower mounts ..of course i ran out of welding wire ill finish that up tomorrow, mocked up where the exhaust will run and exit out the rocker just infront of the rear tyre..also reset the engine to get more carb clerance here are some pics..

Got the drivers side roll bar mount boxed in and fit the exhaust tip through the rocker i think i will use 3/8 tubing around the opening and blend it into the body kind of like what the elanors do... here`s the pics

Awesome project! Where did you buy the rocker panels? Do they fit nicely?
|
The rocker panels came from Mustangs Unlimited and if i had to do it again i would just buy the complete rocker replacement section instead of putting it together in three pieces...and they fit good....
|
Spent most of this weekend refitting the new power rack ..then onto the mock up of the steering and exhaust ..not alot of room for 2 1/8 inch pipes
Here are some pics ... http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...ckandpipes.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...kandpipes2.jpg mocking up the slip fit headers http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...kandpipes1.jpg |
Nice Work
|
well i gave up on the headders as i need more tubing.... so i started on the mini tubs and working on the floor pans ..i remade the crossmember as it was tow low to the ground.......here are some pics ..
not alot of room here http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...hedderpics.jpg wheel tub widened and installed http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...initubmade.jpg New crossmember like my drive shaft http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...rossmember.jpg Right Hand rear floorpan made http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...arfloorpan.jpg |
Barry - here is a link to a website where I documented the tube chassis build. It is a free geocities site so after you look at a few pages it wants to shut down, so you may have to go to it a few times with a break in between.
It is a full tube chassis car, stock section of car as the center chunk, 353 cube de-stroked 400 Chevy 525HP/438ft-lbs on the engine dyno, and I just installed a sequential shift full race 4spd transaxle. My friend is on his way to weld in some brackets for me as I type. 2587lbs with the dry sump, two monster oil coolers, etc etc so she is heavy for a 914 but light for a typical V8 race car. http://www.geocities.com/byndbad914 |
Tim that car is seriously sweet i love it.....thanks for the site i love the documentation of the build ...i would love to see a vid of the car driving...Nice..
|
PS youre right that site is o pos but it will keep me entertained..

In the meantime my channel has a couple vids still up of the car on the track and one drag racing which is futile in a road race car but makes for a fun time with friends. https://www.youtube.com/user/byndbad914 yeah, that site is junk. I need to just get in gear and get my own .com and make a site from scratch that works all the time. |
Your moving along good so far.I always hated making headers.Got and idea what color its going to be?
|
Black on black with dark shadow graphics
|
I just read your build thread from the start. Nice work and great progress.
Is there any updates? It's going to be a sweet car when it's done. |
Ok so i finally finished up some other projects and now i can focus my attention back on to the stang...
