What wheel is this?:hail: |
I don't mean to hijack, but since you guys are all great with 2nd gens how big of a wheel & tire can you go under an unmodified wheeltub? I'm thinking of getting a 71 that's a nice driver. I can't afford to minitub it right now but it needs the 15x7's removed in a bad way. I was thinking of 17 or 18 x 9 or 10 in the back, is that possible? I'm going to lower it but not near as low as the awesome Gold Z. I just want to take the gap out between the tire and wheel opening on the qtr. Again, sorry to interrupt.

10 inch wheel is no problem, wearing a 295 with no mods, or a 315 if you roll the fender lip.

You caught that one Eric!
The spindle is designed as a forging.. It will be out of steel.. Right now it will use a stock Wilwood Camaro hub with a W6 Wilwood caliper.. I have it all designed & layed out but waiting to machine the first set.. The future is to use Impala custom hub with the large bearings.. Caliper brackets can be made to fit different calipers applications.. The steeing arms will be fabricated for different adjustments to the suspension mounting points.. http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...RRING-ARM4.jpg Quote:

Will the spindle and hub combo increase the track width? That is another negative to most of the aftermarket brake set-ups I've seen. It's hard enough with the stock track width to fit much tire on these cars if they are lowered.
|
No.. I can control hub to spindle placement @ this point.. Right now it sits about 3/8 in towards the spindle.. Lowers the car about 1 inch.. & a couple of other things that I will not disclose till prototypes are machined & fitted
At this time I am only making one set.. maybe two.. I don't know if I would take it any farther machining a set for my car.. Forging is expensive!! I could always sand cast like they did the orignals.. But $$$ for tooling is always a BIG factor!! Quote:

Again, very nice work man.

JCG/Speeedway Floater rear end
Got parts machined this week.. close to have the parking brake system work .. We will be using a radial mount Super Lite Wilwood caliper & 12.88 dia x .810 thk rotor.. Keeping rotational weight down..

Very nice work
I bet there is no machine time in that. LOL
Are you using the Billet Super lights narrow calipers that take the 1.1 rotor? I am almost afraid to ask how much to duplicate the hat....but I will? |
We used as many off the shelf items from Wilwood... The calipers are Billet SL & the rotor is 1.10 thk..
With all the components I used ... You can go up to a W4A caliper & 14.25 rotor.. The final set up on my car will be .810 thk with 12.88 diameter... 1.12 or 1.25 on the bore size... Don't want all the rotational weight.. The hat is an off shelf item that has no bolt circle machined to it.. We took care of that & machined the flange to weld on the axle tube.. Cost on the hat ?? @ this time.. This whole set up is sitting on 1 degree of negitive camber!! http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0368.jpg Quote:

Looks very nice as usual, Cris!
Keep us posted. |
Thanks for the STELLAR idea!
Plan on putting a floater in mine soon. I have that hat and parking brake assembly with the 1.1 Rotor.
May do what you did or go parking brake delete. |
Stretch Completed!
I never thought we would get to work on my car with everything I got going on in the shop.. but we found some time to finish all the work the fab work on the rear of the car... We completed the qtr stretch & am very happy with the out come.. mini tubs are complete.. I was not going to do anything with the rear bumper but could not help myself.. We ended up re-doing the whole tail panel to fit the bumper.. We kept the bumper in stock configuration & just re-worked all the sheet metal...
Next steps are the firewall & rear suspension.. http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0440.jpg http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0441.jpg |
Cris!
Can I tell ya sumthin? It's a sickness buddy.... none of us can ever stop... we just have to surrender to the car god that makes us carry on. Nice work - as usual! Now you know what your customers feel like when they finally see something "done" and in primer...  :woot: |
Very cool! Nice to see it in primer...stretch turned out great! Lot's of cool projects under the knife over there! How's Mary's car coming along?

Firewall Roll Bar Flanges
So, we want to make tie down bars from the firewall to the sub-frame.. Here is what we designed tonite.. I will be machining parts in couple of weeks & see how they work..
http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...CAGE_Assem.jpg http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0445.jpg |
Cris,
It looks like the downtube will attach to the right-end of these machined pieces. What attaches to the other end? --Eric |
Eric,
The view of the model shows that left side will elimnate the factory mounting for the fender & replaced with machined pcs.. The right side will be for the down tube that slips over the & has a chamfer so that when welded it has a nice clean bead.. I have to mount my sub-frame & see how we are going to tie it in but more than likely will be another machined flange welded to the sub-frame.. Still trying to decide if we are using a factory frame or aftermarket.. Wanna design one??? LOL Getting tube benders quoted right now & we will have one in the next couple of weeks.. Quote:

Cris if they work out well, let me know I might want a pair of those for my 72 camaro project.Scott.
