Isnt the Baldwin Motion super car one also? And I believe Rodger Burman had one 2yrs ago at Columbus. It would be nice to know how many camaro's on the road have this set up. There are at least four at lat g I know of;
Bobs, Mine, Some guy in Canada I think and one in Illinois that was in the for sale section on lat G with the modified Max G chassis (user name noodles)

ironworks 07-14-2010 03:01 PM

There is way more then 4.
Lingenfelter
50/50
the one from behind bars.
Real Bob Johnson
Dave's 69 camaro
There have been a few come up on Ebay that sit like monster trucks.

If you look outside the Camaro there are a lot more.
Neil Lea 55
G-force Cuda
C6-57
Russell's truck
Johns 66
Doug's nova from Wayne Due
Foose has an Impala going on right now
Jay Leno Toronado
Eric's 62 nova vert
Darrell's Top Secret 67
The West Coast Custom Chevelle
There are a ton more, muscle cars and street rods

I have lengthened the torque tube on quite a few other projects and get a lot of phone calls from guys looking for advice on what we have done with the drivetrain.

nvr2fst 07-14-2010 03:30 PM

21st Centry Street Machines also had a rear c5 rear set up but not sure what cars got the install. Payton might know. Either way, camaro or others theres still only a hand full C5/C6. (another one just got added to the lat g for sale list) I can see that list being much greater if you add in the C4, Heidts, etc to the mix.

Anyway, back to Bobs thread- Great car Bob! Cant wait to see this one on the road.

Street shop chassis works has built at least one old Corvette with the C5/C6 transaxle.

Great Looking Project Real Bob!

Then there are the guys at Neuman Car Creations. They specialize in late model Corvette running gear in early model bodies. I've got a client with a 64 and a 65. One is blown LS2 powered and the other has a 572 GM crate engine. I belive they make their own frames, bolt on the Vette Running gear, your choice of engines, and the drop on the Early model body. (Makes it sound easy doesn't it?)

Ironically the guy's name is Paul Neuman (no relation to the actor.)

REAL BOB JOHNSON 07-14-2010 08:01 PM

I'll get it out side and get some side pics. I'ts been in upolestry shop prision getting interior done. I'm not big on street rod type interior so it's pretty stock. I used stock rear seat back and cut the center out bigger for the trans axle and the bottom half in two pieces and covered them with black leather with red /black houndstooth ,it's bad as,front seats c-6 vette covered the same way Heated and power with memory.

bonecrrusher 07-15-2010 11:04 PM

Does the C5 chassis swap into a Civic count?

LOL...

ssinister 07-19-2010 06:10 PM

Is there a reason why you used rear upper control arms on the front? I also noticed in one of your pictures you actually had the front uppers in the back.

I might be wrong if they changed the front upper control arms between the c5 and c6.

soundqdoug 07-19-2010 06:23 PM

What color red is it painted?

Stuart Adams 07-19-2010 06:28 PM

Cool project. Looking forward to seeing it done.

REAL BOB JOHNSON 07-19-2010 07:17 PM

The control arms are correct. I cut the tee bar out and made teflon bushings. The colr is Ford candy apple red code T on a early ford. Thank's Bob

ssinister 07-20-2010 07:02 PM

oh ok, thats where I was confused. I didn't see the t-bar in the upper control arms. I can see now that they aren't rears. great project

Been working on the doors. I've used the latches and all the electronics out of the corvette power door locks and power doors. The electric latches in a vette are in the door post not the door and the latch is on the door so I had to modify latches to install in door.If you're familer with a C-6 theres a safety,non-elec, handle in the floor to manualy open the door so I used the stock inside door handle for that and installed the elec. button in the door panel and the outside handle pushes a elec. switch and electricaly opens the door like a corvette. Also has heated and power seats from the Z0-6 and the memory controls are also in the door panel. Bob

Looks very nice Bob!

fleet 07-23-2010 07:48 AM

Bob,

Great to see this being done.

Curious on what made you go this route...did you have any performance goals in mind?

For example, did you set out to try and exceed the handling capabilities of the best front and rear 1st gen chassis/suspension setups on the market right now?

Or was it more 'this should work well...time to prove it' ?

Nice! Your old car made me change the route I am going with mine.

REAL BOB JOHNSON 07-23-2010 07:13 PM

GM spent millions of dollars on corvette suspensions over past time and they are proven street and track. My black car was a little to much. It had c-4 front and rear sus.with air bags Big block with turbos and was a little to much. It drove fine, handled pretty good but a little nose heavy. My new red car, I've tried to duplicate all the factory control points for the control arms other than moving them in to fit under the car because a vette tracks wider. Anybody can buy a bunch of bolt ons but I guess I like doing it the hard way.The motor I have now is a LS-7 with a cam and headers and once I'm done with everying else I will put a supercharger on. I would like to be done for GG @ boling green and charlotte. Thank's Bob

bonecrrusher 07-23-2010 07:44 PM

This car going to GG in Charlotte?? I wouldn't mind stopping by checking it out.

fleet 07-23-2010 07:53 PM

Thanks for the explanation Bob.

Glad you like doing things the hard way...it makes this project way more interesting. :D

Look forward to reading what your driving impressions of it are.

REAL BOB JOHNSON 07-23-2010 07:57 PM

Not only does it have the sus, I'm using the ABS and traction control so it should be pretty cool

I hear you Bob which is why I'm doing much the same with Viper suspension on my Dodge Dart. Opted NOT to go with the Viper V10 because of weight distribution. Your build is awesome and I'm looking forward to seeing the end result.
