+1 on the colour choice.
Definitely a good idea to spray them on a big surface. Hard to tell from a paint chip. |

Dude that bad boy is so simple and understated its elegant!! Love it. |
Update!
Most of the filler work is roughed out and ready to refine. All of the bodylines are done and ready to be sharpened up. The front and has been assembled and gapped as well as the doors being set. I'll be replacing the package tray with a speaker tray we built so that'll be cut before it heads into the booth. After doing two '66s, we found that the rear window stainless must be fitted to sit correctly in the window jamb. The aftermarket stuff will stick out at the rear corners so an oem one is key. I ordered the paint today too! Was a huge day just getting that done. It'll come back 509 inches, large hyd roller, head work, 10.5:1 etc. The block on the left is a 400 we are doing for a Nova. http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...4564970728.jpg Color in 2-3 weeks! |

Niiiice!! Before I went LS, I had a BBC 509 in my Chevelle. My member name used to be "509 Chevelle." Keep the pics coming. |

Nice A-body project, can't wait to see paint on it! |
Update- took some shots of it today in the shop. It's in its final primer and ready to start the block party. Got the gaps and edges all in excellent order. My guys are far more talented than myself with this stuff so they got the bodylines all dialed in and that funky door gap the 64-67s all have where the door meets the post. Color is right around the corner!
The last picture is the most exciting one! 4-5 more weeks till my baby boy and I meet eyes for the first time. We are expecting 2 big events in January/February! http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps8af5a401.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...psfdf861b0.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps8a383f2f.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps8b7fbd38.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...psaa5f6891.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps1702c9ed.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps0fe38e97.jpg |
Car is coming along nicely. And even more important, congrats on the baby.
|
congradulations on the baby, life changer if its your first.
Car is super straight....I had to lose my drip rails do to rust. |
Looks great Dave!! Congrats to you and the Mrs. on baby!!
|
Thanks boys! It's been a journey for these 9 months. We are of course very, very excited. I'll post up when he gets here. Thanks for the support everyone!
|
The car looks great. I love the 66-67 chevelles.
Congrats on the new family addition! I hope the delivery is easy and painless. I have two boys and can hardly believe its been 13 years since my first was born. |
I'll let you know you said that! lol I don't envy her right now. looks uncomfortable. God I'm thankful I'm a stand up pee-er. lol
looks like the 502 will be coming home this week too. Could be time for some motor pics. Trying to find a small, streetable cam for that thing. I don't need it to make huge HP numbers, just make vacuum and have a hot roddy sound. I also don't want a ton of valvespring pressure either. I keep going back to the ZZ502 cam. 230 ish duration and small 527 or so lift. might work well. |
congrats,
my daughter just turned 14, with a full weekend of competition cheering!!! yea!!! Dave, car and wife look great!!! Many of you don' t know but I have a project or 2 but I rarely get time to work on them, way too busy, damn! thats why I have no build threads, |
Finished the 502 shortblock today. Went together very easily though 502 Gen 6 blocks have some funky details you really have to watch. I decided on the zz502 cam because its a cruiser and I wanna keep it within the Atomic EFI's base paramiters if I can.
http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...psb46398ac.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps214ea72d.jpg Time to start overhauling these monsters. They are the 088s that 502HOs come with. Its a weird head in that the runners and chambers are fairly large and solid flowing, but GM equipped them with a crappy spring package and a lame valvetrain setup. I'll be tanking them a light milling, drilling the studs for 7/16, ARP stud and guideplates install, mill the spring pockets for real man springs, and a valve job. After that they should be a set of bad ass heads. Pretty ugly now though. http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps61c5354d.jpg Been sanding on this intake for the motor as well. Sanding before powdercoating lets the powder lay really flat and crisp. Almost looks like velvet if done right. I feel lie a crack head out there though. lol This job sucks. http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps0b26beca.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps95569f3e.jpg |

Thanks man. I finally finished the stupid intae today and got it primed and painted. Looks like a moulded piece of plastic now. I like it, but I"d never do that again.
http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps0252c074.jpg Here it iswith the drive fitted and mocked up. Heads should be done by Wednesday and I'll be able to wrap it all up. Just in time to stare at it waiting for a painted body. lol http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...psa18e8afd.jpg |
Tip on the intake. Just have it sandblasted and prime it right way. Sand the primer. Much easier and doesn't make you go crazy. Make sure you lay that primer real nice so you don't have to sand in tiny crevices a whole lot.
|
It looks great, nice job !
|
Car looks awesome and more importantly. Congratulations on the baby
|
Thanks guys for the compliments. Always nice to hear from your peers.
Baby is great. Almost doubled his weight in two months. Looks like a Michelin baby! |
I think the stupid intake looks good :D

Damn that's a way better plan than I had lol. Thanks Royal! Thanks for the note Ron! lol |
Great project, I like it.

Finished the 502 last night. Everything went together just peachy. All of the machine work was done by Nathan Gerolamy at Horsepower by Gerolamy in Carmichael. If you're in Sacramento, Nathan is a great option for any engine combo you want. With the .040 gasket, compression ended up being right at 9.8:1 so it should run well in CA swill. Nathan spent a ton of time on these 088 castings makin a decent head out of them. They have a nice 325cc runner and moderate chamber shapes, but GM handicapped them with non adjustable valvetrain, very small spring pockets, and small 3/8 hardware. All of that is fixed now with ARP and Manley gear. Next up is the Atomic EFI for the engine and some color for the body. More to come.

The motor looks great with all the upgrades. Glad your boys doing well. He'll be out in the garage with in no time. lol
|
Final prime- Finally. Time for some light blocking in 240 and then some 500. Booth time is approaching faster and faster. That last 10% is 90% of the time, but I want it stupid straight.

Awesome build! Every time I read a 67 Chevelle threads I know why the Lord didn't bless me with GW's wealth. I'd have a whole stable full of the beauties. |
Trust me take your time as your going to have plenty of it when the little one comes into your life.
and buy yourself a Little Tikes swing for your garage. Both of my daughters hung out in the garage with me when they were little. It gave mom a break http://www.wayfair.com/Little-Tikes-...73-JD1438.html http://img1.wfrcdn.com/lf/50/hash/56...ng-in-Pink.jpg |
Damn that's a good idea. Order up!

Update-We got all of the removeable panels prepped for paint last weekend. This color requires a strong, white preliminary paint job to achieve its maximum brilliance. It's a crazy red. Here is everything ready for paint:
http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps09f90787.jpg painting the white: http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps6ee4414c.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...psdbdee3cc.jpg Car ready for first color: http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...psfc7c11f9.jpg It'll sit this week in white as we sand it in 600, remove the high build edges and reprep it for the red. On test panels, the red requires six coats to cover fully. It looks like 5 can do it, but there's no sense in risking having a stripe appear after it's buffed. More to come soon. Man this process is a bitch! |
Looks great Dave! Major milestone once you get color on it!

I walked in this morning to find a white Chevelle! Now it's time to let it sit for a week so it can shrink and move while we prep it again for the red coats. It's 90% there, but still so far away from coming home. Piece by piece.
http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps98e07027.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps1424d4b7.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps7f41dfe6.jpg http://i394.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps904220f2.jpg |
Looks awesome! Cant wait to see the final color on it. Hell I'd be happy to leave it that white!
|
Looks like its moving right along. Why not just spray a white sealer on it instead of a full white paint job? If it has clear over the white your red base may react and wrinkle on the fresh clear.
