Hey B...my 'tiny' heads flowed 390 CFM @ .0600, so we went with 23x/24x 630 lift. We're looking for early powerband tourque, not so much top end. I think you need a much bigger cam? Was Shawn able to get more timing in it and how much? I bet you have alot more 'sillyness' letft in that motor before tuning is done...

Have to start somewhere, right? Next cam will be a minimum of a 10deg improvement on int and exh....lift will be north of 650. Believe he said 21 or 22deg of timing on that run. New tweaks and a full pull once dialed in should breeze by 800 with ease.

cencalc6 10-21-2011 12:31 AM

Sick engine man, nice job on the engine bay can't wait for a video

OVRKILL 10-28-2011 10:12 AM

Well it didnt "breeze" past but it got there. New cam ponied up much better numbers. Big Block numbers :unibrow:

803/700 at 6500!!!

Lol, when Shawn called to tell me he said, "Yeah, waaaay past "silly" and right to "stupid". This is one bad bitch!"

Might be a few more ponies in her as he run's through the checklist to make sure everything is correct....maybe another 10.... but to say I'm stoked after a loooooong 13 month engine build is an understatement.

Video and graph to follow...

Rybar 10-28-2011 11:39 AM

Wow man, those are crazy #'s

Now have fun putting it to the ground

Ron in SoCal 10-28-2011 01:26 PM

Way to go Brent!! Silly was never in doubt....

Flash68 10-28-2011 01:29 PM

I'm sure Steve had his goals in mind....lol, same build with another cam may net another 25+.

FWIW........he started it!!!

Maybe an article on the "dark side of a 460" is in order?!?!?!

GregWeld 10-28-2011 05:20 PM

Car is just going to be silly.....

I'm having a bad case of motor envy.

OVRKILL 10-29-2011 04:54 PM

Dyno Day!

Ron in SoCal 10-29-2011 10:07 PM

Bremt.....sounds like a pro stock motor

Track Junky 10-30-2011 03:29 AM

Congrats on the Big HP!! I still cant get over that intake set up, truly awesome!!
Funny how you LS guys can run such low duration at .050. I'd have to recheck my build sheet but I'm pretty sure I'm close to 280.

Thanks guys....duration is still relatively low for these cubes and according to Shawn sounds like a "230-ish" cam in stock cubed motor. Here's the crazy part....there may be a SLIGHT opportunity to tweak one more thing before we actually consider it finished. Not sure if its greed or making sure all the boxes are checked but we'll see what happens when I speak to a couple guys at Crane while I'm in Vegas next week. :_paranoid

cencalc6 10-30-2011 09:54 AM

Excellent work on that Monster engine :hail:

Rybar 10-31-2011 11:40 AM

Sweet video! Hey Brent will that intake even fit under your 4th Gen's hood? Looks quite tall?

That is awesome Brent. You must be very happy with those results!

This a painted effort...which looks great, but not very durable. Even with an adhesion promotor. :(

Talked to my new friends at Bilstein while at SEMA and they now have black boots and will be sending me a pair at no cost :woot:

awr68 11-03-2011 11:59 AM

Very nice build! Crazy motor....too cool!!

Budweasel 11-03-2011 12:34 PM

Wow, impressive. Looked like it wanted off the stand.

I was hoping you knew some super cool solution. Based on how 'flimsy' the 'boots' are I figured no color/dye would cling for long. Unfortunately, mine don't have the studs for easy slip on/off replacement so I'm stuck w/these as I don't care for the 'accordian' style universal options.

Thanks regardless. Killer powerplant BTW!

scholtmj 11-04-2011 06:30 AM

This car doesn't belong here, it's not a 69!

....oh, I see you've already got a mifbody welcome

Kind of a FWIW post and view of the dyno graph from the video run. Not sure if we're completely done.....might be a opportunity for a few more. Stay tuned :unibrow:

scholtmj 11-07-2011 01:15 PM

Is that 1.75 hp/cubic inch? That's pretty nuts!

GregWeld 11-07-2011 02:12 PM

Were you shifting at the stair steps?? Any pull I've ever done is in high gear - and the torque is a nice flat curve... What do you suppose is causing the wobbles in the line??

No shifting there....a little intake reversion (pulses) that are pretty common with ITB's. Some of it is due to the dyno header configuration. It looks worse than it really is. Things will improve once its in the car and chassis tuned...

OVRKILL 12-24-2011 12:41 AM

Saw it for the first time today in person :unibrow:

Have a few cosmetic things to clean up....Shawn is working with Crane on one more cam to squeeze a few more ponies out of it. Hopefully get it wrapped up over the next few weeks....

That motor looks like it belongs in an enclosed glass case inside a museum on display. Either that or on the cover of one of those "How To Build An LS Motor" books.:woot:

Top notch Bro

Now bring that bad dog home and put him to bed

No kidding Ron....I'm ready to start putting this thing together. So many cool parts and ideas for a 4th gen, I'm getting a little anxious! I'm starting to put dates on the calender for next year and would really rather I didnt go 0-10 again

Lol...you and me both. Would have had the engine last fall if Crane didnt step in to say, "hey, we have an idea....." .

Still naively shooting for Power Tour this year so if all goes well might hit the rollers late spring. Road to completion has just begun.....
