Fuel tank

Have had a busy weekend .Spent Saturday with my son making a custom alloy fuel tank .Being a Sheetmetal fabricator he made it look easy using a Cad cutter , all the pieces were cut to size and then folded . Another 4hrs welding and fitting it up. Here are some photos of its last fit up before having the lid welded in place . It has a surge tank for the pump to sit in and baffles to stop fuel from leving the pickup . He has also built in a baffle to stop fuel sloshing back up the filler under acceleration . Sunday was spent fitting the driver side extractors what a job .They are all seperate pipes but not a lot of room with a FE in a mustang engine bay i mean tight .

Very cool car. I really like silver mustangs

It has been a while since i last posted as i have been waiting on parts to arrive from the USA . The dual pass Afco radiator has arrived which we are fitting up with a Ford taurus thermo fan the highest cfm fan available .My son is making a new alloy shroud and mounting brackets.I have fitted up the aircon condensor which came from a late model falcon which is a perfect fit with the radiator .Found a small alloy oil cooler at the wreckers for the power steering as the extractors run very close to the steering box will post some photos soon . Hope to have the new exhaust fitted next week ,then it is running all the electricals and fuel lines .Getting closer to firing it up

All the pulleys are now fitted with 120 amp alternator to run all the electronics. Steering wheel i am really impressed with looks a treat fitted in the car. The Afco radiator just fits between the rails will make a new aluminium shroud and will remove the fan from the plastic taurus shroud and fit it up these fans are said to be a good piece i am told it will have its work cutout in a hot queensland summer .The condensor is full width of the radiator and i have fitted a small oil cooler for the power steering .

I see I'm late to the party! Always glad to see 1) more FE's 2) More Aussies! 3) More Mustangs :trophy-1302:
I deal with a lot of blown FE stuff and use XFI systems on all of my builds so just holler at me if you have any questions. I can even give you a referral to someone in the Syndey area if you need help with tuning. I've got a couple clients down under that I've sold parts to. Build looks great so far... I love that manifold! |
Has been a slow week pulled apart the airconditioning assembly and found that the heater core was shot and one of the vacuum actuators no longer works .Ordered a new heater core had to get a TX valve out of the USA ,finally fitted it all back in today what a job .It is tight under the dash . Ford Australia announced this week that they would stop producing cars in Australia in 2016 a sad day .I will start on the wiring loom tomorrow.
|
You're coming along nicely! Fire up should be just around the corner eh??
|
Yes Greg getting closer every day the anticipation of firing it up is hard to explain it has been a long road but certainly a worthwhile one . When it is a home build and you have to juggle family and work commitments the car is not always the main priority .I can assure you it has been getting a lot of attention lately , so my wife tells me .
|
Nice car, even if it gives Rob another Ford on his side!:peepwall:
All kidding aside really nice car! |

I have been able to finish the main power cable from the boot mounted battery ,to the battery isolator through to the starter motor . Fuel pump and the Fast wiring is also complete .had a call from the trimmer that the seats were ready to be picked up . I had purchased some 2nd hand Recaro's and had the rear seats retrimmed in black vinyl with comfort weave inserts . The build list is getting shorter .
|
Seats look good
|
X 2 on the seat. Very nice.
|
You are getting close for sure.
The seats look nice but you had me at 390 S Code :D http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...psf9fba743.jpg Should be some on the road pictures coming soon. :popcorn2: |

Rob as you know it certainly takes time but i am getting quite excited as i get to the finish line .The trim has come up a treat will be nice to get it fitted once i am home , as i work on a 7 days at work and 7 days home roster . There is always lots to do when i am home with house duties as my wife is not able to do with 2 spinal fusions and degeneration of her spine . i am spending more time in the shed to finish it . Our local track held a great race meeting last weekend calling it 2 days of thunder with a Trans Tasmam race with Kiwi and Aussie Trans Am racing it was ablast ,i will post some photos .And when i get home they are having a all American steel day so it should be good with lots of USA muscle cars . With the Aussie dollar being so high the tell me the wharves are busy with muscle cars coming in . Enough rambling keep up the great work you guys .
|
Damn :popcorn2: How did I miss this?

I love that ear of race cars. |
Well today will go down as one of my proudest after a lot of hard work out in the garage the pure sound of a FE came to life I am still pumped .This engine has real soul the Tripower set up is great throttle response is awesome so crisp and responsive . Just have to spend some time trimming out some fuel and spend some time on the ignition maps .Next up will be the engineers report to get it registered. Bring it on.
|
Great photos of the "American muscle car weekend"!
Good to hear your FE roars!! |
Some video guys sorry about quality .will take some more when on the road .

Finished the interior of the car its amazing what fitting carpet seats and door cards does for the car .I am very happy with the Dakota VMX dash . The car will have its engineering done Monday for the modifications that have been done ,then it is time to get it registered. Still need to sought out the EFI still a little rich and rough at idle .

Looks good, I like the blue lighting theme
|
There certainly is some great new product available for our Mustangs ,and the instruments are great I was lucky that my family bought me a new stereo a few years back and it also has the blue lighting . Rip the sound of our cars is awesome the sound from the rear pipes sweet music .The stereo is there to fill a hole in the dash . Can't wait to get it on the road .
|
I'm liking the gauges! Looks real nice
|
I'm liking the color choices for your mustang. I plan on similar colors for mine but a different stripe pattern. I know you gave the names already but do you have the actual paint codes?
thanks |
The colours are both Mercedes Brilliant silver with silver argent stripes . Had the engineering certificate completed last night getting close for the first drive off to get it registered . The gauges look great ,especially at night .
|
I'm a little confused. Is this car going to be registered for street? I thought the steering had to be on the right hand side. BTW that is a beautiful car and some really nice work!!!
|
left hand drive cars 30 years and older can be registered in Australia .They must have a few things done to comply seatbelts , headlights & tyres to Aussie design rules . The car has passed its engineering certificate ,getting it registered next week .

Today my car broke free from the garage for its first drive ,from purchasing the car in 2003 and finally getting it finished has been a long road but the joy of backing it out and taking that first drive i'm still smiling .

Holy cow --- 10 years of love sitting right there!!
SWEET!! |
Rob it has been a couple of tough weeks with loosing my mother on Friday she was 93 years old I miss her so much . I will post some videos as soon as I can . The car sounds wicked I have a few bugs to iron out today .I will have to fit a heavier spring on the throttle linkage and adjust the brake bias ,the car has been a great diversion to lift my spirits .
|
Sorry to hear about your mom. Congratulations on the car, not only a great feeling to finally get it done and out but now it won't constantly weigh on you daily! Sweet car!
