Just read this entire thread. Your teams attention to detail is fantastic. I am really looking forward to seeing this car completed.

Brian wanted to see how 275 x 18's fit so he borrowed these from another project car
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pskztqghuw.jpg This is the owners original 255 x 17's that are now to narrow and will be going on my Mustang II restomod under construction. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psl5e49v5h.jpg |
Sprayed a little epoxy to keep it from getting any surface rust
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psc8hfcpsm.jpg Brian is starting on the other side. Bolted on the stone guard and front valance to keep everything lined up. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psgpvtburt.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psavtdg0ob.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psw60wgtmn.jpg Left side http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psz5f1g7k7.jpg Welds ground http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psosf9dx9t.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psl9fo5wur.jpg |
Rod & Custom coilover rear suspension
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psxj42ekim.jpg Currie 9" with Wilwood brakes http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psx6kgxrzf.jpg Test fitting the rear suspension http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pslbbx4anc.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psabg3xn9b.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps6dxhzxs4.jpg |
The original front fender flare has to be cut out
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps739gajzx.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psxkcuhmxm.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psme15uaek.jpg The fenders were sanded to bare metal and epoxy primed http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psrm9b0c6s.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps690h7vt7.jpg We did a little bodywork on the inside of the fenders and epoxy primed http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pshv98bfue.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psgnbxrmfc.jpg |
Got time to flare my Mustang like that? But might want to go even wider....

I'll "store" it for you until Rusty is ready for it my friend! :innocent:

I have the second Rod & Custom rear suspension kit sold on my 1968 Coupe and it fit great. We can get the car real low if we want. The kit has been redesigned and it is a little harder to install and you cannot get it as low as my car.
The upper shock mount now has heim joints because I'm sure not all early Mustangs have the same distance between the frame rails. Tack welded in place http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pskfkmzk3h.jpg Upper control arm crossmember and rear end brackets tack welded in place http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psfnjlciqm.jpg Installing the rear coilover shocks http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pshdv2mi28.jpg Everything was installed according to the directions and this is the lowest it would go. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psb3quy3bu.jpg After talking to Rod & Custom they said to turn the lower shock mount over http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psbv6tag7n.jpg This is the ride height now with no weight in the car http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pscbjk5cop.jpg |
With weight in the car I think the ride height will be about right
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pshkvyb3li.jpg Welded the rear valance in place http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psybje0lqd.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psqmrx48l0.jpg Welds ground http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pslarvevtp.jpg We wanted to do something different for the exhaust. We cut the exhaust outlets from a 1967 valance but had to make it a little larger to fit our tail pipes http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps8dzk8reb.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psbb9dwmng.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psfmg898dk.jpg Welds ground http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psoptdqfht.jpg |
So many little touches on this car that will make it look great. I'm glad you're showing them since I don't know Mustangs well enough to pick them out on my own.

Fixing the trunk gap
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psibt1ljnm.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psp8cosasf.jpg The owner wanted a spoiler but did not like how tall it was so we lowered the Mustangs to Fear spoiler and end caps about 1". It will be straight with the top of the quarter http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psxkkmutaz.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pshpbcu0j9.jpg Spoiler cut and test fitting http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psaldvz7cu.jpg |
Looking good , Rusty.
|
The end caps were bolted, bonded and fiberglass mat added to the quarter panel
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psp60nlakj.jpg The spoiler was bonded to the deck lid and fiberglass mat added http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psg9vkklcd.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psztzqaofh.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psqomr1qgm.jpg |
I epoxy primed the body
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pssw0wl89n.jpg Block sanded and a little more bodywork http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps0dgiwphu.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psc3jhanqc.jpg One coat of SPI epoxy primer http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psx809ct9x.jpg Two coats of SPI Turbo primer http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psjcpaemfj.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psgwdvdewp.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psob2lrwu0.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psdmqh4wvm.jpg |
Brian has the sheetmetal lined up.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psiofmu7u7.jpg Test fitting the new Stang-Aholics front valance http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psn9xos1cw.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psbuphgkwg.jpg The gas filler will have to be moved down a little because the cap hits the deck lid. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pswejd6ty2.jpg |
Could you cut a little half moon in the lip of the deck lid to go around the gas cap? Kind of like the cut outs over the tail lights?

It looks nice Rusty.

I have been busy working in the shop and I need to update
I block sanded the fiberglass hood http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps2hopvzoa.jpg Sprayed one coat of SPI black epoxy http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pszablfzht.jpg Two Coats of SPI Turbo primer http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pslbhhpfqy.jpg Block sanded again http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pschpfdwxz.jpg Two coats of SPI epoxy http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psubblyais.jpg The fiberglass bumper did not fit our car. The center section did not line up with the lower valance and the bumper was to narrow. I cut the center out of the bumper and had to modify the holes in the taillight panel to get the bumper lowered. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psuautgg5z.jpg I used Duraglass to attach the brackets to the bumper. Later I added a couple layers of fiberglass to hold them in place http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps0jucjpuo.jpg This shows you have much I need to add to the left side http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psqy6nruny.jpg I added fiberglass to the top to hold it in place http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psrlus7lux.jpg I clamped it to a long piece of angle and added fiberglass on the back side. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psapduqxn0.jpg I removed the braces and clamps and finished adding fiberglass to both sides and this is how it looks now. I still have to work on the gaps. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psbxrwwyu4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psrxzjgan5.jpg |
Good job, Rusty! Looks a lot better now
|
I epoxy primed the bumper and test fit
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pstqkbqmna.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pspzqxcngx.jpg It still needed a little bodywork http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psorwiecbi.jpg Epoxy primed again http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pstg5ie8wa.jpg |
This project will be on hold for a little while.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psxkma1jz0.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps1tkuuu58.jpg |
We are back working on this project. I had to do a little bodywork on the front of the fenders to get them to line up to the new front valance and epoxy primed.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psxbkocbyd.jpg Front valance and rear bumper block sanded and epoxy primed http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps2l4kdc3v.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psoosaedl7.jpg Test fitting one more time http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psor5vmrdb.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pszlrqtwzu.jpg |
We have been working on this doing a lot of little things to make it look right. The hood did not line up with the headlight buckets so I had to add fiberglass to the end of the hood.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psgtyfqfon.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psjgo58agc.jpg Brian test fit all the door glass, vent windows, quarter windows, windshield and back glass moldings This area needed a little work http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps5gopd0lo.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psfzcs6for.jpg I worked on the body lines http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps7qa7rjm0.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pstu6hz92i.jpg As you can see in this photo the front valance was a little high and the fender had a low spot that needed bodywork http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pswb9ak1fx.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pscll0gdkt.jpg In the middle of a lot of block sanding and looking for any imperfections http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psgpi9lwis.jpg |

After sanding we found a couple of small imperfections I wasn't happy with so I fixed them and epoxy primed again. It will be ready for paint after a little wet sanding with 600.
