How long from the day you closed on the lot to move in? I'm in permits right now.

We bought the lot March 29, 2013......

But - we did two separate custom designs - which took many months.

Started excavation August of 2014

Greg, are you getting out of the Snow and bringing the Mustang to the "50" Trans-Am reunion at Sebring?

No - because it's not a real one to begin with.... and with the house moving etc. I'm not planning on doing much of anything this year. Just too many other things going on.

Jay Hilliard 02-17-2016 02:37 PM

Awesome Greg! Its came a long ways from the pics you showed me at 2014 SEMA. You should be very proud of this. Very beautiful!

Now, if I can just ever make there to see it in person. Between the house or shop, would be a hard decision :-)

Congrats Greg, I know you can hardly wait to move in.

Dang, I thought we toss back some Frosties! It should be a great event as a Lot of the Original Drivers are coming in

Gwen is the one that's just itching to get in there! I just want it to be all done and all perfect before I move a thing..... like that would ever happen! It has been a very long journey - two house designs - and 10,000's of 1,000's of decisions.... There's so many details when you do a custom like this! OMG! But we've met a lot of great people - made some friends that will be breaking bread with for many years... and the project is turning out the way we wanted it to. So all's good!

I just have a jam up of stuff to do sometimes. It's amazing that being retired can take up so much time!!! LOL With the kids getting older - they've actually taken up more time - because now their life long friends - or our friends kids are getting married... so you have those "must do" events... Toss in a few car events... and just adjusting to all the new stuff we're doing here.

waynieZ 02-17-2016 04:30 PM

Glad to hear the move is getting close and it's all coming together.

Vegas69 02-17-2016 09:18 PM

It's insane, you need to be retired to take on a project like that. Somedays I wonder what the F I'm doing to myself! Have to see the vision. That's the only saving grace. I keep driving out there to remind myself. :lostmarbles:

For fun - and to check the positions and angles (aim) of various exterior lighting components - we fired up the view side of the house --- and the fire pit.... Terrible iPhone night pics but you'll get the drift.

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...e/DSC_4899.jpg

The firepit is an old "cone" from a mine..... and the log set we had built to fit. The logs et all are all metal.

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...e/IMG_8714.jpg

Most of the "major" landscaping was put in just the week before we got snow (snow doesn't leave here until April or May).

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...e/IMG_8621.jpg

About where I was standing when taking the night shot of the outside lighting..... I wasn't as far out as this or using the wide angle lens on my good camera that this was taken with.

Amazing Greg, Beautiful home.

We love it. The more I'm here - the more I love it. And that's a good thing.

THAT is a REALLY GOOD THING!!

GregWeld 05-20-2016 09:19 AM

Just because I'm feeling it today --- I'll share some interior pics before we moved in. I don't expect people to like it --- it's pure "sun valley" lodge and wouldn't work for me say, in Seattle. But the design fits HERE.

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...verall1005.jpg

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...chen0986_1.jpg

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...reatRM0956.jpg

This is the MUD ROOM -- where you come through from the upper garage....

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...dMudRM1015.jpg

The laundry room just off the Mud Room....

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...ndryRM1010.jpg

My "TV" room --- it's smallish room just off the great room - where I can go and watch all my tv shows - or just sit quietly and post 20,000 more posts on Lat G. The pallet in here is dark - wire brushed (textured) oak - with some pretty cool hardware....

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...ediaRM1000.jpg

One of the guest baths....

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...rsBath1047.jpg

GregWeld 05-20-2016 09:32 AM

So we used the neutral pallet of color -- to be a background for some of the "unusual" art we have....

The house looks very warm and comfortable. I'd imagine it's a great place to decompress. Worth every penny.

DBasher 05-20-2016 10:38 AM

Looks real cozy GW, I really like the lighting over the islands and the "caged" lights in the mud room. The place looks great!

Are you still working out of the commercial shed or have you got the lower garage all set up?

syborg tt 05-20-2016 11:08 AM

Not much I would change.

Well, Maybe add a few trails in the bike yard for my Mountain bike habit.

jy211 05-20-2016 11:33 AM

We spent a lot of time on lighting and fixtures and the whole Lutron QS HomeSmart system etc. Lighting is really important to make a room feel good.

There's 1400 miles of Mtn Bike trails here -- the closest one to us - runs across our property.

Had to get above Clint across the valley.

Greg your statement: "We spent a lot of time on lighting and fixtures and the whole Lutron QS HomeSmart system etc. Lighting is really important to make a room feel good" This is so true! I along with my brother and sister in law a electrical supply house and lighting fixture showroom. Getting this point through to people that are building $5-$6 million beachfront homes and want to skimp on lighting. Lighting is what makes a house, it helps show off all the fine details, cabinets, floors, pictures etc. The same goes for your workshop. Your working on the car you gotta be able to SEE!!
Beautiful house, lighting is awesome. The show of the house lit up at night is awesome! Well Done!

Boss 5.0 05-21-2016 04:19 AM

Spectacular home Greg. I love everything about it.

fleetus macmullitz 05-21-2016 09:26 AM

For parents of a young carbon fibre maven, everything sure looks like it has a lot of 'heft' to it...may even be 'Stella proof' too.

Lookin fantasic Mr Weld.

I love architechture and this is one of my top three "looks", the cabin meets rustic.

Are the steel trusses repurposed or custom made?

You guys had a killer designer too btw, if no designer, hats off to whoever designed it. Great flow, color coordination, lighting etc.....

Looks like somebody actually installed a frameless shower door correctly, glass first, then tile up too it (most are done with clips or channel, few like this)

Anyways.....Health, then wealth.....Cheers from Kilifornia....

WILWAXU 05-21-2016 11:20 AM

Love it!

The double kitchen island setup looks like a miniature Master Chief set :D

monza 05-21-2016 11:43 AM

Ya I guess the house is ok:) I came here looking for your shop...

This began as a napkin "sort of" sketch... and then developed from there. It was a fun project. Our designer - Jennifer Hoey Interiors - did everything from stud in. Obviously -- it's all Gwen's and my "choices" -- they give you choices and you modify (hot rod) it and steer it to what you like as they try to contain your enthusiasm.... LOL

Jimbo1367 06-04-2016 02:17 PM

Greg,
Totally love the inside as much as the outside.

Stuart Adams 06-07-2016 09:30 PM

Killer place. Congrats.

SSLance 06-08-2016 05:42 AM

So I some how missed the updates with the interior pics... Stumbled across them this morning while having my coffee and my wife walks by and sees them up on my laptop... Thanks a LOT Greg... **rolleyes**

;)

Place looks great, love the feel of the inside and the openness. I hope it is working out as planned once you got everything moved in. You are done moving in, right?
