That thing is a PITA to try and do yourself! :superhack:

I did my install completely by myself. Definitely smart money to let a couple of pros do it.

:D

I grew up in Glenwood Springs, CO so I'm well aware of the hassles of living in a remote area. Some things are nice, others are flat out a PITA to deal with. Especially if you are trying to live on a budget.

Someday, I hope to be in a position where I can pay someone to move me. I know people that have never moved their own stuff, they think that's what movers are for. I have never paid anyone to move anything for me, always done it myself. Often wondered WHY I'm doing it myself, but that's all I know...

Moving myself ended with my move from New York City back to the west coast in 1983.... a high school buddy that was out of work came back and we spent two weeks packing a big truck. There was not one square inch of air space when we finished.

The shop will require a 53' trailer that can hold 59 pallets... as everything in the shop has to be crated - palletized (solid floor pallets) - and shrink wrapped or banded on the pallet. Why? Because that's the way I want it done. Makes it easier on the other end when I'm all by myself and trying to move stuff around and set it all up again. They're bringing 6 guys and figure two days of "packing" and one day of loading.... There is no F'n way I could do this by myself or have good enough friends that would volunteer to help. It's a pro deal all the way.

Jeff-

I did my first lift by myself using my engine hoist. When I decided to upgrade that EAGLE lift to the Rotary - I had the company come and remove mine and deliver it to Chris Holstrom (he was just setting up his own new shop) and install the new one.

I will set up the Rotary in the new shop by myself..... it's not hard - it is dangerous - and a guy just needs to use his head and be careful. With the overhead in the new shed -- I'll just pick up the uprights with a chain hoist because I can position the hoist directly above where the upright will be installed. Bada Bing - Bada Boom..... I'll send pics from the hospital stay.

Definitely Money well spent! When I bought my Lift, I had the Local Rotary Dealer bring it out & Install it. Plus my Garage Floor was 14 Inches Thick - they had to go out and get longer Drill Bits and Bolts!

I figure I would have spent more in Delivery Fees and Beer for my friends if I had tried to do it myself

lol... :D

When I was moving mine back 10 feet, still all in one piece, at one point it started to tilt over until one of the arms hit the floor and it stopped...

:hairpullout:

My Dad was out there watching me and he said "I'm gonna go back inside now, good luck with that." :D

LOL just pricing out a new one for my new garage, they want 500.00 to install......... I have done it before but I think it is going to be money well spent. if it falls over when I'm installing it it will do more then 500.00 damage. I figure

waynieZ 06-25-2014 09:49 AM

Smart thinking Blake, especially if the damage is to you or one of the guy in the shop.

Arrived over here this morning - and this time I brought my wide angle lens... so here's some pics that aren't from a cell phone!

Taken from on top the toterhome...

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/DSC_4324.jpg

The "reception" area -- which I'm just going to put art and signs and stuff in... I don't want Charley to stop by and think he's got a place to hang out...

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/DSC_4331.jpg

This is upstairs and where I'll put a sofa and all that kind of stuff.... but it will be roped off so Charley will think it's closed to the public.

Those 5 gallon buckets are nothing but the chips for the floor paint - they're everywhere! I had no idea they used that much chips!

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/DSC_4334.jpg

From a different position - looking back to the upstairs storage area...

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/DSC_4335.jpg

With the doors closed....

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/DSC_4336.jpg

LET THE FLOOR PAINTING BEGIN!!! They cut the floors with a diamond grinder.... then apply the epoxy paint.... then completely cover it with chips (nothing but latex paint chips!) --- then on Friday the part that makes it NOT peel even with hot tires --- the Polyurethane clear top coat! That's the secret over the home done stuff -- the grinding for grip -- and the top coat. Epoxy is SOFT and if it's not clear coated it yellows and sticks to hot tires and peels right off.... YA THINK THIS IS WHY THE PRO STUFF WORKS A BIT BETTER??

The floor is ground....

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/DSC_4348.jpg

They have less than 10 minutes to get about 100 square feet cut and rolled and chips thrown on... they make very small batches of the epoxy --- work quickly -- and move on to the next square.

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5795.jpg

They had strategically placed 5 gallon buckets of these chips all over.... and they're using a 5 gallon bucket full per 100 square feet! The floor is COMPLETELY covered with these chips. I always thought they were just kind of broadcast around --- that no workie!

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5796.jpg

He's just beginning to broadcast the chips.

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5797.jpg

He's nowhere near done yet!

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5798.jpg

Look at the floor now --- NO SHINE ANYWHERE... it's covered plus!

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5799.jpg

They use a small electric blower to blow the chips off the unpainted portion and start the process all over again! They're working FAST as in OMG... They paint is all laid out downstairs in little plastic buckets -- the helper runs downstairs and makes up another batch -- they cut - roll two directions - broadcast - blow - and repeat. Tomorrow they'll SCRAPE the floor in two directions with a sharp wide scraper to cut any chips that aren't flat -- clean up that mess and start clear coating. No wonder this is expensive!

I LOVE that floor man. Looks great!

waynieZ 06-25-2014 04:49 PM

Wow its going to look awesome! I wish I had sprung for the floors in my garage to be done.
I hope you never drop anything on the floor you would like to find again.
