I think the car isn't in that bad of condition.
There couldn't have been much air in the vault to aid in the rusting.

The story says that the local 1957 resident or his or her heirs of Tulsa who guessed the cities 2007 population would win the car and its contents. I wonder if there was a clause stating whether or not they get it as is or if they will clean it up and restore it for them..... imagine the excitment of winning and then being present to see this unearthed ?:mad:
They also say that BC and crew would be there to attempt to start the car for the first time in 50 years. Can you see him anywhere near that dirty car ?
That would be worth the price of admission alone for me !

INTERESTING THEORY... so how do you explain the rust on the Titanic? There's no air down there and the ship is almost gone.

Actually, there is... the rolliing of the ocean infuses air into the water. More importantly, it infuses oxygen into the water, oxygen being what is needed for rust. However, it isn't rust that does the most damage to the ships, but instead it's the creatures. This is why the confederate sub was in such good shape, the thing filled with mud, and most of the oxygen was kept out of the sub. Hence, a lot of items were still in the sub when it was dug up, including skeletons, clothing, and leather items.

The date is 6/14, a day before it was unearthed. I think the plans may have altered after they saw the condition of the vehicle. I think Boyd has his work cut out for him but I'd actually love to see it somehow salvaged and reborn.

The easiest way to restore the time capsule car would be to:

1: Find and purchase the nicest 57 belvedere to be found in existence today

2: Remove and dispose of one of the plastic valve stem caps

3: Remove one 1957 plastic valve stem cap from the time capsule car, which should still be in reasonable shape.

4: Install time capsule car's 1957 valve stem cap onto car found in item #1

5: Sweep remains of time capsule car into a hole, plant tree over site as a tribute.

Take a look at the place that may be doing the restoration (the missbelvedere.com link). Is that the coolest rust removal process or what?! They say they have been using it for years on bridges.
