I'm sure you know what they sound like straight pipe. there were people coming out from everywhere to see what it was

Pics, as promised

Huge MagnaFlow muffler. It is really pretty quite with just this one, but has lots of bass. I may end up adding one more muffler.

New wires for the leading coils.

The wideband is wired up. After the tuning is complete, we will get the wideband connected to the ECU as well.

Here is how the NA throttle cable hooks up.

A couple broken 7's. For once, mine is the closest to being finished.

I have some video of the car running, just need to host it somewhere.

I have been following your build

great looking project. I am thinking of picking up an FD R1 bi-turbo. I cannot decide if I want to mess with the rotoray or drop in an LSx motor. Which forum is the best or who do I need to speak with for information.

Thanks

stylEmon 05-09-2007 11:45 AM

If you get an FD, it has TONS of potential. You will also find that the FD is where the rotary gets a reputation for unreliability. The twin turbos are terrible; as is the radiator and intercooler. There is a check list (of sorts) of reliability mods that should be first priority. The motor, tranny, and suspension is great.

Below are links to the most active Rotary forum. It I've heard the FD section is a bit more tame, but some of the sections are pretty rough (rude, sarcastic, etc).

My car is finally back at home. We are tuning every night this week!! :willy:

new alternator from a 3rd gen RX-7. also got a dual pully with a rotor shape on. The rotor shape it's self is rumored to add 20 HP! :unibrow:

picked up this complete V-mount set up. came with the throttle body adapter, piping, and blow off valve.

I took the car out tuning this weekend. So far, it's tuned as a non-turbo. still needs a little more work, but I was able to get it up to about 100 mph on the NA tune.

I also picked up this new underdrive pulley. Its has 4 timing marks.

Should have the new clutch hydraulics hooked up soon. I may go out tonight to finish the NA tuning. I've driven the car around town a little this weekend. Drives nice, but I miss the turbo!!

took her out tuning under boost last night.
We had the wastegate rod disconnected, so there was basically a large hole in my exhaust. With that in mind, the stock turbo put out 20 lbs!!

I couldnt believe it. I am gonna have to get a large wastegate on that thing to control boost. Anything over 12lbs probobly isn't adding power due to the amount of heat blowing through that turbine.

Car ran fine though. All gears feel good. I need to get the clutch hydraulics replaced so shifting is a little smoother.

The new rear coil-overs and larger tires make a huge difference. I know I was going fast, but it feels easy to handle. It didn't feel as fast as it was. (make sense?!)

Water temp- solid 190
EGT- 900-1400. usually around 1150
intake temps- 140-ish. A little high, intake still needs to be placed outside engine bay

Car is running well. I am having the injectors test for dead band timing by www.yawpower.com The owner of this shop has been helping me get my car properly tuned. He is a motec dealer. This ECU is reall slick. Once I purchase the advanced tuning, it will basically autotune it's self based on lambda. :wow:

Also installed water/meth on the car. That is the FUN JUICE for sure!! Keeps the new motor clean, and keeps intake temps down. Also keeps the car from detonating. Once I get the car on closed loop tuning, I'm gonna hook up the methanol injector to the ecu so it wont be a linear spray, but curve based.

I hope to get this thing on a dyno and on the track :willy:

I'll try to get some picks of the water/meth system ans any other updates I've got going on...

WOW, it's been a while since I updated this thread. It's been a hairy couple months. I had to get my car through emissions. That was pretty tough. I ended up having to put a catylitc converter, air pump and charcoal canister on the car. I also leaned out the mixture to the point where the car barely ran and disconnected the wastegate rod to keep the smog monkeys off the boost.

Here is my Uber-Tyte emissions exhaust.

Basically, it's just a cat and a couple feet of pipe.

This is the actual exhaust I run now.

I FINALLY got my solid motor mounts. Much better than what was in there before. The old ones collapsed...

This is where my CAI was mounted before. It sucked. I busted 3 K&N air filters with this set up.
