I'm not sure who builds them, but they are from Detroit Speed. I had several people working on alternative options for me, but we weren't able to find anything that fit - -- or fit to my liking. These were expensive, but they fit absolutely perfectly.
|
I agree with you on the headers, the DSE stuff just fits so darn nice you can't help yourself. you will forget about the cost down the road...

Haven't been very good about taking pictures. I have the seat supports all welded in and tied them together under the trans tunnel. I also decided that I didn't want my exhaust to be below the rocker panels - -- sooooo. I ended up with a bunch of 304 stainless oval tubing from Vibrant (via B&B Classics). Billy also make me an X-pipe which is a piece of art. I'll be running Borla Pro-XS mufflers. I plan to fab up the entire exhaust prior to putting the floors in the car. Another side-effect of the exhaust being tucked up so high is that the first cross-member that I made just didn't suit me any more. I changed the support structure and built a new cross-member. Sadly, I had quite a few hours in the first one, but it will be put to good use as "garage art".

Cool project. I am doing an oval exhaust also. The crossover looks really nice.
|
It will be nice having the exhaust tucked up nice and tight.

Few quick updates.... Worked on buttoning up the dash around the cage tubes.

A few days off work = Progress
The following progress is the result of 4 straight days of working in the garage and sleeping very little. I loved every minute of it!
Started off by working on the exhaust. 3" round to oval, then back to round at the muffler. Borla Pro-XS mufflers. I only ran it back to the muffler and plan to finish out the over the axle pipes and tail pipes later. I thought it would be easier to build it back to the axle before I put the floors in. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-m..._132754051.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-F..._184419197.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-e..._084353552.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-j..._084858539.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-z..._092717543.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-L..._162610183.jpg |
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-c..._162317900.jpg
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-x..._162411814.jpg Nice and tucked up - - - all worth the 2X cost of the oval tubing! ;) https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-t..._162556900.jpg All tacked together. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-o..._163629983.jpg |
Seats mounted
I also got the seats mounted..... I bought threaded tubes and made "stand-offs" for the tracks to bolt to. Between the side mounts and the tracks, I have all kinds of adjustment. The seats bolt directly into the rectangular tubing crossmembers that I built.

Front Cage Tube
I wanted the cage to fit up tight...........so, I ended up having to remove the front roof structure to weld it. Drill all of the spot welds out of the roof structure (after taking a few measurement of course!). Welded the cage bars and then replaced the structure. BTW -- - My interior guy will probably kill me. The headliner is going to be a tight fit.

Roof - inner structure
I cleaned up the inner structure and brushed on a KBS products (kind of like POR15. - - it worked out pretty nicely.

More Tools
I picked up this Mittler Bros bench top press and a dimple die set too!

After a detour to go pick up the press and dies......
We worked on the trans tunnel. I bought the front section of the tunnel from B&B. The rear section Dad and I formed with a piece of 4" steel pipe and a board that Dad shaped for a makeshift hammer form - - - I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

Is anyone else having a problem seeing your pics or is it just me? All I see is an X.
|
Hmmmmm....... I'll have to mess with it. I'm trying to use Google Plus to size them to a normal size. The album is shared publicly, but Google changes things so often.

A lot better with the pictures working Brandon. That is some nice work your doing there. I like the way the exhaust is tucked up tight like that. Nice job on the tunnel and floor.

Great work.

Wow
Awesome progress!

Needing a update on this.
|
I haven't done much on it for a while. I got busy at work and my wife got some bad health related news. Without going into all of the details, we've been spending a lot of time traveling around to various doctors etc..
I'm hoping to get back out there to make some progress soon, but it just hasn't been a priority. I'm glad someone is paying attention to the build though! |
Wow! That's sad to hear Brandon! Damn. Hope everything turns out 100% positive for you.
|
Sorry to hear I pray for better health for your wife.
|
All the best for peace and health for your wife and home bud!
|
Thanks everyone. My wife is really open about what is going on. She had breast cancer a little over 2 years ago and the end result of treatments was about as positive as we could have have asked for. Unfortunately, the breast cancer returned and has metastasized to her spine. The good news is she feels perfectly fine and there are treatment options. Our hope is that the cancer responds well to the "easy" treatment options with fewer side-effects.
For now - -- we are enjoying life and taking it one day at a time. The car will get finished, but given the choice to simply hang out on the couch with my wife or go to the garage.......... well...... I did sneak out there last night for a couple of hours, turned up the stereo and finished tig welding my exhaust. Thanks for asking about the project. That was good motivation for me! - Brandon |
I saw her and your update on Facebook and I was heart broken. I know what you guys are going through as I am a two timer also with new issues that we've been watching almost a year now. Stay strong and if you need anything we are all here for you. I am also a pretty good listener as I've gone through this dozens of my friends and there significant others. Probably close to 30 people so I've been on both sides of the fence.

This is a great build. You have come so far along on a major project. More importantly though my thoughts are with you and your family. Breast cancer has run it's course in my family and all I can say is hang in there!
|
Thanks everyone.
|
The build is looking great! Keep up the hard work. I am sorry to hear about your wife.
