Firewall Mount - -

Floor pans - getting pretty close -
I need to finish up the front of the tunnel and hammer and dolly some parts, but that'll be easier to do once the engine and trans are back out of the car. Making little bits of progress........ slowly, but surely!
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-7..._234715520.jpg https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-c..._234705281.jpg Fabbed a slight bulge in the floor to allow for a little more header clearance https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-_..._234659522.jpg https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-F..._234723779.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-X..._234742724.jpg https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-P..._234759323.jpg |
Just for fun
For some reason, I like this picture - - thought I'd post it just for fun......
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-s...202815_HDR.jpg I still use a few tricks that my H.S geometry teacher taught us with a compass all the time - - bisect and angle, mid-point of a line - radius a corner etc..... You can see my markings. :) |
Looking good Brandon, I hope all is well.

Nice work! But whats up with that Suburban in the background?

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-1..._152458844.jpg '72 Suburban, 350/2004R, AGR box, CPP sway bars, Porterbuilt stage 1..... etc.. It's just a fun cruiser. Longer term, the plan is to swap in a 6.0/4L80E and use it to tow my Chevy II to events, but for now it's the only thing I have on the road to cruise. I'm a bit biased, but I must say the patina on it is pretty fantastic! Oh - -and the girls love it!!! https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-N..._120348094.jpg |
Nice looking rig.
|
Wow Brandon, the car is turning out great!!!! Loving the look of the flattend floor. The cage is nice, all tucked up in there like that.

That floor and trans tunnel are gorgeous! Great work!
|
Still chipping away Brandon?
|
Still chipping away - - slowly
I'll do a bit of a photo dump and try to add some commentary as I have time...
Mocking up the DSE inner fenders and front fenders... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Yb...g=w600-h400-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/bb...g=w600-h400-no |
Brandon, those are some nice parts right there. The car is looking great, nice work.
|
Made some panels to closeout the rear seat area (won't be running a seat)
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/LC...Q=w600-h400-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/yK...Q=w600-h400-no Rear Package Tray https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/u7...Q=w800-h400-no |
added bracing to front sub-frame mounts - not quite as fancy as DSE did on Gawlick's car, but the same idea.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/75...w=w600-h400-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/RQ...w=w600-h400-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Bf...w=w600-h400-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/n-...w=w600-h400-no |
Mocking up the rear - - dreaming a bit....
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/cY...A=w600-h400-no Front fenders dipped, cleaned up and mocked up - they need some patches in the upper cowl area, but are otherwise really nice fenders. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/lZ...Q=w600-h400-no Started with this ****ty patch job - they just brazed the outer to the brace and bondo'ed over it all... Below are the steps I took to repair it... I have about..... 6hrs or so in each fender patch.. if not a little more. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/C-...w=w600-h400-no Cut up another fender that was solid in this area... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/u6...w=w600-h400-no |
Tig welded it in - hammer and dolly and grind somewhat smooth.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/j4...g=w600-h400-no block and sand across with some 80grit and hammer and dolly some more - - then I tried out my new toy (shrinking disk) - - hammer and dolly, shrink, hammer and dolly and shrink - until it's where I wanted it. I did the same thing on the other fender. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/oN...A=w600-h400-no It's not perfect, but it's one of the better patches I've done to date - just keep practicing and trying to get better. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/m8...A=w600-h400-no |
more cage bars -- I decided to add x-bars that tie into the upper DSE link mount.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Qo...g=w600-h400-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Fh...w=w800-h250-no |
I also ordered a bunch more parts.
- Racepak IQ3S - Holley HP EFI - Holley accessory drive kit - Vintage Air Gen IV with 3-knob controller - not running AC right now, but want to be prepared in case I do later. - Factory reproduction radio delete pannel - DSE Wiper kit - Sparco 6 pt harnesses - Braille battery mount - remote battery mount kit - well, I bought it all from Waytek - C6 Z06 Brakes (used from a buddy) I'm trying to figure out what to do on wheels, but have a few options that I'm toying with. |
Your updates are most pleasing.
|
Very nice updates, car is looking great:thumbsup::thumbsup:
|
Very cool, top notch work as usual.
|
Thanks guys----I'm really getting anxious to get this thing on the road, but life has been busy. I try not to stress out about it and just be thankful that I'm able to even build the car.....no matter how long it takes!
|
I understand slow. I am not a body man, and trying a quarter is stretching me.
But like you said, life gets in the way with kids and everything. I just keep telling myself, one day, one day, I will get this finished. Keep going, you do awesome work. You actually make me want to work on mine. |
Tha car is looking good, nice job on the fendr patch.
|
Yeah I can TIG and patch sheet metal pretty well by now too, but I also struggle with really getting it metal finished - and in a way its a waste of time anyway as anything I build (or anyone else really) will get skimmed enough to cover it, but I"m always amazed how the pros can make their patches look like a continuous piece of metal that was never welded. I'd like to watch their finishing technique from start to finish some time.
and just go ahead and install A/C, you're going to want it sooner or later and much easier to put it in now. |

I had planned on running the Weld RT-S 71......... They apparently no longer offer the width and backspacing that I need in a "high pad height" - which is what is needed to clear the C6Z brakes.
I've been thinking about the CCW LM-5 black center.. http://i54.tinypic.com/29qmlnb.jpg Forgelines, unfortunately just aren't in my budget right now |

I know.....that is still $1200 or so more than CCW..... I'm working on something though.... |
Wow Brandon. I'm am in awe of your fab. skills. The car looks really good. I sat down tonight and went through your whole thread. It was great meeting you and your Dad the other day at Tom and Deb's.
