Update-We got all of the removeable panels prepped for paint last weekend. This color requires a strong, white preliminary paint job to achieve its maximum brilliance. It's a crazy red. Here is everything ready for paint:

It'll sit this week in white as we sand it in 600, remove the high build edges and reprep it for the red. On test panels, the red requires six coats to cover fully. It looks like 5 can do it, but there's no sense in risking having a stripe appear after it's buffed. More to come soon. Man this process is a bitch!

Looks great Dave! Major milestone once you get color on it!

Thank Brent! I agree though- seeing the red on it and getting it cut and polished will be the biggest step forward. After that, it's all nuts and bolts!!! My turn!

I walked in this morning to find a white Chevelle! Now it's time to let it sit for a week so it can shrink and move while we prep it again for the red coats. It's 90% there, but still so far away from coming home. Piece by piece.

Looks awesome! Cant wait to see the final color on it. Hell I'd be happy to leave it that white!

Looks like its moving right along. Why not just spray a white sealer on it instead of a full white paint job? If it has clear over the white your red base may react and wrinkle on the fresh clear.

We tried a couple of test panels with white sealer. Against the single stage white (8624 GM bright white) it jus didn't have the brilliance or capture the light nearly as well. The red is so transparent, it needs a super intense base to reflect off of. It's weird.

Thats what i was thinking....seems like a lot of extra work. Although i dont see a chance of the base wrinkling the clear especially if he waits a week, the clear will be hard as a rock.

Alan, thanks for the nice note! You'll see it in person one day for sure. Julie and I want to do some shows and events down in your area when it's done.

This week it's being blocked again (uhg!) and prepared for the red coats. Some day this will all end lmao.
