I hope you never drop anything on the floor you would like to find again.

I was always going to paint the FOOT traffic areas --- my big debate is the area that is driven on and parked on - and also WORKED ON - as in welding etc.... THAT IS NOT GETTING COATED. PERIOD. I'm not spending good money on something I totally expect to be a disaster.

The coaters and I were laughing about dropping nuts and bolts on the floor! Fugidaboudit!

The machine area is getting coated... and the only welding I do in that area is TIG... But under the lift etc -- you drop stuff - you MIG weld - You drag trannies -- and roll jacks and jack stands etc. AIN'T PAINTING IT....

waynieZ 06-25-2014 06:00 PM

That's a good plan. the machine area will be easier to keep clean of oil and other spills being coated.

Just tell us where to send the cards and flowers :)

BTW the "shed" is looking great. My shop is about a 15 minute drive from my house but it isn't so bad and it does make it seem like you're "getting away".
Don't need any nice custom cabinets do ya??

It's being CLEAR COATED today -- the pics Sieg posted aren't cleared yet. Floor will have a low sheen to it when they're done today. I just didn't want to hang around and be in their way or smell the stinky stuff.

So the entry - upstairs - tool area is all I did -- the rest of the floor I can cut and weld and bang my head and not hurt anything. Just the way I like it!

camcojb 06-26-2014 07:26 PM

So when is the open house? :goggles:

Greg,

We don't need a screwdriver to have a party. Plus, can't you cook from the rig?

Well instead of Screwdrivers - I could just get a keg....

I'll be here for the Sun Valley Road Rally.... and all the stuff from the other shed will be here on pallets -- so you guys could all come over and run your cars (or as most on here do - WATCH) LOL ----- and then help me hang signs and unpack.... Party, Work, Play...

That's what we are talkin about!

I will tell anyone thinking about having their floors done.... do this in the right order of the build/remodel! I chose to have this done AFTER everything was painted and finished. That's because I didn't decide to do it until everything else looked so good that I thought - what the heck - might as well do the floors now. The diamond grinder is hooked to a large vacuum - but it isn't capable of trapping the super fine dust.

Big mistake.

The dust from the diamond cutter is EVERYWHERE.... and it will take some time to get it all cleaned up. It's super fine... and is on every freshly painted wall -- and on every surface. It cleans up with a vacuum -- but running a vacuum on the painted walls isn't an option. The walls are a dark color and they would be clean but would also need to be repainted! I'm going to try to use a wide dust mop and hope that knocks the dust off without streaking or marring the walls.

Had I known it was going to make this big of a mess -- I'd have had the painters come in and mask everything that wasn't a floor.

Sieg 06-28-2014 07:46 AM

Technically the flooring company should have warned you and priced the job with and without additional dust control measures.

Vince@Meanstreets 06-28-2014 12:01 PM

We did our floors first then ran over the whole shop with compressed air. waited, blew it out again 2 days later. Ran a mop through, then painted the walls. Dust sucks!

Oh... you mean the very same idiot that told me "the only way you'll know I was here is because the floors are painted"?? That same guy??

I just spent from 6AM this morning til 3:30PM cleaning.... it's back to perfect now... and I need a nap.

Yesterday I vacuumed the entire shop floor..... it's a lot of floor space when using a vacuum head that's maybe 15" or so wide and you have short arms...

Today I started with the walls and they came out perfect and won't need any paint work.... then cleaned off all the electrical boxes as the guy that made the statement above --- managed to toss chip piles on every one of them...

It's okay - I have nothing else to do. Tomorrow I'll run the rig down to Twin Falls to the Blue Beacon Truck Wash... That's only a 5 hour round trip.... it's okay -- I got nothing else to do. :>)

clill 06-28-2014 07:37 PM

You could get the diamond grinder back and do the shop floor like you were supposed to.

I've had more than a couple installers dust a customers house down due to improper dust control measures........I paid for the cleaning service to restore the site to original condition.

I'd invite the idiot over for a beer and polite show & tell session. :guns:

GregWeld 06-28-2014 08:04 PM

The dust wasn't really that big of an issue -- It was more that the 'order of things' as out of sync. Which is why I posted what I did.

Now - it would have been a much bigger problem if I'd done the whole shop. :underchair:

I understand but it's just good business practice. It would have taken a lot less time for them to visqueen and draft the area vs what you're having to do. When we were fabbing Corian counters it was a dust nightmare in a remodel situation.

I figured you'd have Jody on contract.

GregWeld 07-01-2014 04:43 PM

Hey Lance....

Remember we were discussing the SHOP move....

Preliminary numbers for the transport to Hailey are $24,185.85.

We will have 6 crew on site for 10 hours per day for 3 days packing an loading directly. The @ 10 crates will be built on site and everything is to be palletized as we discussed.

I'm not sure I paid that much for my first house.

SSLance 07-01-2014 07:58 PM

Ugh.... :ohsnap:
