looking good Steve,nice work

Before I get in trouble with FETorino, here is what I have been working on. The dash is just roughly fitted (in and out of the car at least 20+ times) and will have to get final trimming and finishing after. Its heading for temporary storage while I work on some other parts of the car. Looks like I will have to go lexan with a slider or power windows because I have no room left for roll up handles. lol

Awesome build! I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I just discovered this build thread today (in my defense there are a lot of Camaro builds on this forum) and sat down to read all 32+ pages

With a car like this nobody dares question the name "Speed" do they... :)

I'm not sure this post keeps you out of jail.:headscratch:

:y0!: Where's the pictures of that hood? I can't wait to see that rendering come to life. :popcorn2:

speedjohnston 02-13-2014 07:12 PM

I'm working on it....

The hood is under way. Hopefully I can keep adding some regular updates now until its running. (if anyone still cares) :_paranoid

One of my favorite builds on the site. Keep the updates coming

tones2SS 03-27-2014 05:04 PM

Awesome job.
That hood looks great!

dave96dcm 04-01-2014 10:51 AM

You should put some small Gurney flaps at the leading edge of the cutouts to help create a more effective low pressure zone. Nothing big, maybe 1/2-3/4" tall would make a big difference.

speedjohnston 04-05-2014 03:38 PM

Its a little farther along this week. Some of the inner pieces are on and the mold for the 'upper scoop' is made.

sitting a little crooked on top and probably not in the right position but it gives the idea of whats going on.

Yes!

speedjohnston 04-28-2014 05:27 PM

The hood is finished and painted a satin black until I can have the whole car painted. It may get louvers, a screen or stay open where the air travels up and over the hood. Testing will help determine that in the future. I'm very happy with how it turned out.

Very nice.

x2. It has a very wicked, all business look to it. I dig it. I still dig the groovy current paint scheme too :thankyou:

speedjohnston 05-02-2014 08:33 PM

Not quite as 'exciting' as the hood but still another piece of my puzzle is the trunk lid. The old steel lid had to have the latch cut out, and the spoiler was molded in and starting to separate from the steel. I opted to go all glass and have the spoiler built in to the lid again.

WSSix 05-03-2014 07:01 AM

Is the trunk lid custom made like the hood or an aftermarket piece? I've seen the aftermarket ones and have thought about using one for my build eventually. Just not sure of the quality etc.

Thanks.

I purchased the hood and trunk lid from glasstek. The rear spoiler was made by someone else. I used glasstek because most of the people on a website called yellowbullet liked the products. Yellowbullet is huge with the drag racing crowd so there is a lot of input on fiberglass products. I also wanted a 4" give or take a 1/2" cowl hood as a base. So far I haven't heard any complaints from Vic (doing the custom work) about the quality. The trunk lid is a bolt on and seemed to go on with no issues.
This is what the hood looked like when I got it, but the pic was taken off the glasstek website.

Thanks for the feedback.

Just finished installing a new shifter a few days ago. I really needed to have a ratchet shifter to make the car work the way I want. The old (but still new) TCI is more of a gated type. Too easy to skip a gear on a downshift. The shift lever on the transmission had to be custom made to clear everything but it works perfectly.

So back she goes in the trailer...
http://i850.photobucket.com/albums/a...psb259acda.jpg
The winch is the second best thing next to the trailer itself. I can load it on my own in a few min.
http://i850.photobucket.com/albums/a...psfa94dffd.jpg
I have packed up my bucket of new Spek Pro gauges (like the ones they use in NASCAR).
http://i850.photobucket.com/albums/a...pse5d9a0e6.jpg
Plus a whole box of misc. goodies.
http://i850.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps3c0b7e98.jpg
Hopefully in a few weeks it goes back in the trailer under its own power. :woot:
Or it blew up. :censored:

WSSix 06-11-2014 07:38 PM

Good luck!

Flash68 06-11-2014 10:00 PM

Killer stuff. Love the Spek gauges in black.

What are your plans for your first event?

speedjohnston 06-22-2014 05:17 PM

If all goes well and the car is running in July, I am signed up to run a half mile event for top speed on an airstrip in August. I may hit some local drag strips first to make sure its safe and running straight. After the half mile probably a 1 mile and try for my 200mph and then fix up the rear so it can turn properly. The shop it was at didn't really deliver what I asked for so some of it needs to be done again. Nothing major, but still frustrating.

It's always something.
Awesome about the 1 mile run. Good luck and keep us posted.

FETorino 06-23-2014 05:25 PM

Have I mentioned how much I love this car:headscratch: :hail:

What is left to get done before her maiden voyage in August?

speedjohnston 06-24-2014 06:22 PM

Over the next month I should be getting the ignition system, finishing all the oil lines, trans lines (plus coolers for both), power steering lines, and re do those things not done properly by the last shop. The muffler on one side was tight and hanging below the floor about 1/2" but the other side was left loose. When I tightened it, it's trying to press through the floor. The 4 link bars are also too long. The rear was centered, but once pinion angle was corrected, the rear pushed back about 3/4 of an inch too far with the bars adjusted as short as possible. Now I can pay for another alignment as well. :G-Dub:
They also bent the centering bar because the tabs were too close together. I will have to get it reinforced to make sure it doesn't collapse as it is the start of a kink.
Funny how I did the front in my garage and camber and caster was almost dead on with a measuring tape, but the part I paid for has to be done again.
Once it gets home I have to get the windows back in, bolt in the seats and belts and then wire all the lights etc.
After that :drive:
