Ready for Race Rodz!

4 Attachment(s)
After I got the sub-frame media blasted I spent a few weeks of WAY late nights stitch welding the frame halfs together, A/C compressor notch finished, cleaned up factory welds, body worked, and painted. On the bottom of the car I cleaned up all the welds from the mods I did, body worked it a bit and got it into paint...this was after I stripped it all to bare metal by hand, I'll never do that again!

I then installed the frame and welded it to the DSE SFC's. Then finished mounting the last of the parts on the fire wall, hung the sheet metal and loaded it on a trailer just in time to take it to Chris (race rodz) for the Aug. 11drop off dead line. Drove 600 miles yeasterday, but I know it's in good hands! It was a ton of work for me to do in a few weeks, I'm tired and am looking forward to spending the rest of the summer with my family and hitting a few camp grounds. It's all up to you now Chris!!

i keep seeing all the horror stories of peoples cars stuck in the paint shop for many months and even years.... and i just dont get it. there will be a lot of updates on the progress so everyone can see how long a job like this "should" take.

i will officially start workin on the car monday morning, should have updates every couple days.

cool, can't wait to see the progress. you doin the full shanty on it? skim coat, poly, urethane? good luck

ProdigyCustoms 08-12-2007 06:22 PM

Well, I think it is in good hands.

L8ONBRAKE 08-12-2007 06:59 PM

You might think about putting some undercoating in the wheel wells and other parts. I know after having such a nice undercarriage the thought of undercoating probably makes you grim. I did the same thing and am definetly going to undercoat the wheel wells as I know the paint will just get chipped and plus it makes nasty tinny noises when driving through gravel or anything loose in the road.

Subframe looks killer! Whose rack and pinion kit did you use?

awr68 08-12-2007 08:42 PM

It's a Unisteer power rack.

Garage Dog 65 08-12-2007 08:48 PM

Congrats Anthony ! That's a major milestone. Get some rest and celebrate !!

mdprovee 08-12-2007 10:55 PM

That is cool Anthony, mine is going to paint next week.

How did the intercooler turn out?

Steve Chryssos 08-12-2007 11:08 PM

Congrats Anthony!! Pick a final color yet?

Pretty sure it's going C6 LeMans Blue. Carter is just about finished with the renderings and I'm loving how it's looking!

Congrats to you!

The IC will work great. I got pretty far on the tubing mockup, ran out of parts and time and had to get into paint mode, so I'll finish it when the car returns. But as far as packaging goes it's done and looks good.

Musclerodz 08-13-2007 06:36 AM

Congrats on finally getting it too paint. You seem to be moving pretty steady on it now.

Jake I'm coming up with 19U as a GM paint code and 6232 from PPG for LeMans Blue....as far as I know they only put this on the C6 and some C5's.

68protouring454 08-13-2007 07:20 PM

not seeing it in my dupont/standox 2007 chip book, and i just wondered

68protouring454 08-14-2007 08:55 PM

i will look on my mixing system tomorrow however i am not sure 19u is a current year code.

19u is black metallic, where did you get the code from?

awr68 08-14-2007 09:21 PM

I googled ''C6 LeMans Blue paint code'' and found some sites with the code...it's the current blue they put on the C6 Z06. Here's one site, scroll to the bottom under '05.

http://www.southerncarparts.com/info...hp?pages_id=13

Here's another site, again scroll down a bit.

Does this help??

68protouring454 08-14-2007 09:46 PM

wa933L is the actual code that comes up on my mixing system formula retrieval for standox. lemans blue 2004-2005, the wa number was on the far right, u19 would of gotten you black.

awr68 08-14-2007 10:19 PM

You guys rock!!

jannes_z-28 08-15-2007 08:15 AM

Major achievement Tony:thumbsup:

Can't wait to see how it turns out. Saw a Corvette yesterday in that color, it's gonna be real sweet.

Chris deserves ALL the credit as he's doing all the body and paint work...I'm just writing the checks.

But yes he is doing a great job and at the promised fast pace!

I hear ya there, brother! I can relate on just cutting the checks.... as I have NO skills!! LOL

When do you expect to get it back and be on the road?

awr68 08-28-2007 05:18 PM

Chris will have it a few more weeks or so.
I plan on driving it next summer. That's if I can stretch the budget the distance! I'd love to debut it at the GG show in Washington next July...we'll see! :)

tomorrow the car will be DP90, then the "fun" starts

Does that "deep metal cleaner" also prevent rust?

It's finally all one color...first time in 5 years!! All smiles over here!! Thanks Chris!! :hail:

Getting closer!! I'm going down this weekend to see it and I can't wait!! Your doing a great job Chris...and fast too!!

awr68 10-02-2007 11:30 PM

Thanks Brother!!

Looks great Chris, I knew you could do it...you got mad skilz!!

Guys, I went down last weekend a spent the day with Chris and my car and I have to say he is doing a great job and I couldn't be happier! He has done a ton of work in less than two months. The front end was a huge setback time wise but as he mentioned, we aren't as concerned about a deadline on this project as the fit and finish. He is doing a great job and the car will see paint soon!!

Yeah, I'm damn excited these days!!

Spiffav8 10-03-2007 11:51 PM

Chris that looks awesome! You’re doing a great job and I know Anthony is stoked. Keep posting pics for us…PLEASE.

Ricochet 10-04-2007 01:03 AM

Nice progress Chris!! I'm sure you are stoked Anthony. Much like Scott - you are getting closer to the end. BTW...That blue looks killer!! Look forward to seeing you at SEMA!!

Brent

awr68 10-05-2007 12:20 AM

Thanks Brent! Yeah I can't wait to see it painted! SEMA is going to be a blast...can't wait!!
