rhino lining
Anybody ever coat the bottom of their car with this stuff? I'm thinking of doing the Cutlass while it is off the frame. Any idea of how much it would cost?

One Million Dollars..... :D

I have never done it myself but I know the Sick Fish that Troy built was coated on the bottom...very clean & sanitary
Cost???????? |
I think the bottom of sick fish was just powder coated not rhino lined.

I will look this weekend it should be at Indy! I was under the impression the bottom of the car and the inside of the car...floor, firewall, rear seat delete area was all coated, it may not be rhino liner but it is some sort of textered coating!
Here a pic of the bottom of the 56 in there shop now this same stuff is on the sick fish! |
I thought they coated over the powdercoating on the underside?

I coated inside and out of my 69 Vette pan and my 69 Camaro with truck bed liner. I thinned it down a bit to avoid excess build up where it was not needed. I shot the inner firewall and the ceiling, inside the trunk and backside of the quarter panels.
Cost? You can get the gun for about $20 at most paint supply stores (body shultz gun). There are different types of "rhino" liner (epoxy, urothane, etc) and brands. It usually runs around $100 or so for a two quart kit. You want to get the two part kind as it bonds better and should last much longer. http://www.mcspeed.homestead.com/files/belly_5.JPG |
What would be the pro's/con's of using Rhino as opposed to any other undercoating/treatment?

from what i've read, it's pretty tough and it seals out water and air completely. Meaning no rust. It probably has some heat & sound deadening effects as well.

I'd recommend Line-X over the "rhino linings". Line-x is more of a consistent application where rhino stuff gets "clumpy" and not as attractive. Line-x is some tough @#$$ too, I took a hammer to it and barely left a mark. No chips or cracks, just a scuff mark....

Is there any way to strip this stuff off 20 years from now, when my car needs another resto? :willy: I've been considering it for my undercarriage and inside the trunk.

I sprayed the bottom of my 68 with reflex. which is a twin of rhino, but better. Pro's sound deadening, no rust, cons-weight. Weight isn't a issue for me. The underbody looks perfect, great finish. I would do it again on my next project.

I plan on doing the bottom of the Pinto withthe Line_x brand and the inside with Lizzard Skin. I want to keep the heat out and make it a better ride inside.
