Checking interest \ value

Hello all,

Hope everyone is well. The purpose of this post is to check interested and perhaps assess the value of my 68 pro-tour Camaro. As some of you may know, I bought this car from a forum member a few months back. It was almost done and almost perfect when I got it. It is now "done". Tracy, the builder, did a terrific job building the car. The only "problem" was some welds on the 4-bar rear end did not fully penetrate so I had all of the welds ground off and re-welded. Since owning the Camaro I have done small things like slap on a Marquez Design billet gas cap, replace the front seats, have the trunk upholstered in a body color matching scheme, have the alternator replaced and had the car Dyno tuned. You may remember a post form me a few months back where I was jumping out of my chair after seeing the car made 638 ft. lbs. of torque and 593 HP AT THE REAR WHEELS!

At any rate, the car is beautiful, monstrously fast, reliable and just a killer car. All that said, I am already bored and thinking about moving on to another car (for those of you who know me, you know I have this sickness). So, I was hoping to measure interest in this car both from a dollar as well as a trade perspective. At the risk of posting the longest thread in the history of Lateral-G.net, here is some details on the Camaro as well as a link to an Internet picture hosting site with loads of pictures of the car. I also have some small Quicktime videos so you can hear the car. If you would, could you scan the attached document and take a look at the pictures and let me know what you think? Any input would be very welcome.

Camaro Details:

BODY \ PAINT: COMPLETLY RUST FREE BODY. THE CAMARO HAS ALL OF ITS ORIGINAL PANELS/DOORS AND WAS A GREAT DONOR CAR TO START WITH. THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD THE CAR PAINTED A COUPLE YEARS AGO BUT THE CAMARO NEVER SAW THE LIGHT OF DAY AS IT WAS A PROJECT WITH NO END IN SIGHT. IT HAS A BEAUTIFUL, TWO STAGE PAINT JOB (BURIED IN HIGH-QUALITY CLEAR) AND IS SEBRING SILVER WITH BLACK STRIPES. THE FIREWALL WAS FLUSHED WITH A DETROIT SPEED AND ENGINEERING PLATE. THE FLOOR WAS COVERED WITH SOUND DEADENING MATERIAL TO KEEP THE SOUND AND HEAT TO A MINIMUM. ADDED MARQUEZ DESIGN BILLET GAS CAP. THE BODY IS VERY STRAIGHT AND ALL GAPS LINE UP GREAT.

MINITUB: PROFESSIONALLY DONE AND IT LOOKS GREAT!! THE DETROIT SPEED AND ENGINEERING WHEEL TUBS LOOK LIKE THEY CAME FROM GM EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT THEY HOUSE HUGE 335/30 MICHELIN PILOTS.
REAR SUSPENSION: THE REAR WAS UPDATED WITH THE LATEST TRICK SUSPENSION, ALSON CHASSISWORKS G-BAR. THE G-BAR IS A CANTED FOUR BAR REAR SUSPENSION THAT IS LIGHT YEARS AHEAD OF STOCK LEAF SPRINGS. THIS TRICK SUSPENSION USES VARISHOCK QS1 ALUMINUM COILOVERS THAT ARE ADJUSTABLE AND ALSO ALLOW EASY CHANGES IN RIDE HEIGHT.

FRONT STEERING/SUSPENSION: THE FRONT /STEERING/SUSPENSION WAS UPDATED WITH A TON OF TRICK PARTS: FULLY ADJUSTABLE TUBULAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS, SCREW IN HOWE NASCAR TALL BALL JOINTS, GLOBAL WEST COIL SPRINGS, BILSTEIN FRONT SHOCKS, HUGE HOCHKIS SWAY BAR, KRC ALUMINUM POWER STEERING PUMP, KRC REMOTE ALUMINUM RESERVIOR, HIGH PRESSURE STAINLESS BRAIDED LINES AND A QUICK RATIO POWER STEERING BOX. THE BODY IS MOUNTED TO THE CHASSIS WITH SOLID BODY MOUNTS AND THE FRAME IS TIED TOGETHER WITH GLOBAL WEST SUB FRAME CONNECTORS. THE HANDLING ON THIS CAMARO IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!

ENGINE: THIS IS A CUSTOM PRO BUILT 580 ci MOTOR. BUILT BY rebirdraceengines.com. THIS IS NOT A GM CRATE MOTOR! THIS CUSTOM BUILT BULLET HAS A DIFFERENT BORE/STROKE COMBO THAN A GM CRATE MOTOR, 4.5" STROKE x 4.53" BORE. THE LONGER STROKE PROVIDES MORE TORQUE AND MORE HORSEPOWER AT A USABLE STREET RPM. THIS STREET MOTOR IS FULL OF KILLER PARTS AND OF COURSE RUNS ON PUMP GAS WITH NO ISSUES BECAUSE OF ITS MILD COMPRESSION OF 10:1. THE BOTTOM END IS ALL 4340 STEEL AND THE BLOCK IS A MERLIN II. THE HEADS ARE FULLY PORTED DART ALUMINUM HEADS TOPPED OFF WITH A FULLY PORTED DART INTAKE AND A TRICKED OUT AED 950 HP HOLLEY CARB. THE VALVE TRAIN IS HANDLED BY A COMP CAMS ROLLER SHAFT, COMP CAMS ROLLER LIFTERS, COMP CAMS STAINLESS FULL ROLLER ROCKERS, COMP CAMS PUSHRODS AND AN ALUMINIUM STUD GIRDLE. THE IGNITION IS A FULL MSD SYSTEM WITH A PRO BILLET DISTRIBUTOR, MSD BLASTER III COIL, MSD 6M BOX AND MSD PLUG WIRES. THE CAR WAS DYNO TUNED BY A WLL KNOWN SPEED SHOP IN SAN JOSE, CA. I HAVE DYNO SHEET THAT SHOW THIS CAR MAKE 638 FT. LBS. OR TOURQUE AND 593 HP AT THE REAR WHEELS. AND, IT IDLES AT 900 RPM, RUNS COOL AND IS A *****CAT UNTIL YOU ROMP ON IT. THE DYNO IS FROM NEW ZEALAND AND TO THE DYNO MNAUFACTUERE ANY DRIVE WHEEL IS A FLOYWHEEL SO PLEASE DO NOT BE CONFUSED BY THAT PORTION OF THE DYNO PICTURE. IF YOU LOOK AT THE PICTURE IT ACTUALLY SAYS CHASSIS DYNO. AS I HAD HOPED, THE CAMARO IS REALLY QUICK AND CAN KILL THE REAR TIRES AT WILL.

EXHAUST: THE HEADERS ARE HIGH DOLLAR COATED DYNATECH PIPES CONNECTED TO A 3" SPINTECH EXHAUST SYSTEM. THE MUFFLERS ARE LARGE SPINTECH XL TO KEEP THE NEIGHBORS AND COPS A LITTLE HAPPIER. THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO TAILPIPES PAST THE REAREND SO IT DOES HAVE A WICKED SOUND.

TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH: THE TRANNY IS A TKO 600 5 SPEED WITH A .64 OVERDRIVE. THE FIVE SPEED OFFERS SUPER QUICK RATIOS FOR DRIVING IN TOWN AND A BIG OVERDRIVE FOR HIGHWAY CRUISING. THE TRANNY MATES TO THE BIG MOTOR WITH A SFI STEEL FLYWHEEL, THE CLUTCH DUTIES ARE HANDLED BY A KILLER MCLEOD UNIT (SMOOTTH WITH NO CHATTER) AND THE BELLHOUSING IS A MCLEOD SFI BLOWPROOF HOUSING. THE CLUTCH IS ACTUATED BY A TILTON HYDRAULIC CLUTCH MASTER AND A MCLEOD HYDRAULIC THROWOUT BEARING. THE SMOOTH HYDRAULIC CLUTCH ALLOWS YOU TO RUN A MUCH STRONGER CLUTCH ON THE STREET WITHOUT BURNING DOWN YOUR LEG AT EVERY STOP LIGHT.

REAREND: THE REAR IS A FULL BLOWN MOSER ENGINEERING 12 BOLT WITH 33 SPLINE AXLES, 3.73 GEAR, 1350 YOKE, 1/2" STUDS AND BIG FORD HOUSING ENDS. THE REAR IS BULLETPROOF AND READY FOR YOU RIGHT FOOT!

BRAKES: THE BRAKES CONSISTS OF A COMPLETE WILWOOD DISK BRAKE SYSTEM WITH A PARKING BRAKE. ALL ROTORS ARE DRILLED, SLOTTED AND COATED FOR KILLER LOOKS. THE MASTER CYLINDER IS AN ALUMINUM WILWOOD PIECE THAT DEPRESSES EASILY AND PROVIDES A GREAT FEEL FOR THE ROAD. THE CAR STOPS ON A DIME AND THE BRAKES ARE VERY QUIET (NO SQUEACKS). ALL LINES THAT CARRY FLUID ARE STEEL BRAIDED. THE PARKING BRAKE CABLES ARE MADE BY LOKAR AND PROVIDE A VERY SMOOTH ENGAGEMENT AND DO NOT HANG BELOW THE EXHAUST LIKE THE FACTORY SYSTEM.

WHEELS/TIRES: THE WHEELS ARE A BEAUTIFUL THREE PIECE DESIGN BY FORGELINE AND ARE THE ULTIMATE FOR A STREET CAR. THE WHEELS HAVE POLISHED, DEEP LIPS AND FORGED ALUMINUM CENTERS COLORED IN GUN METAL. THE GUN METAL COLOR REALLY BOUNCES WELL OFF OF THE SEBRING SILVER PAINT. THE WHEELS ARE 18x8.5 FRONT AND 18x12 REAR WITH 335/30 MICHELIN PILOT SPORT TIRES.

COOLING/PULLEYS: THE COOLING CHORES ARE HANDLED BY A HUGE C&R NASCAR BRAND RADIATOR. THE SYSTEM IS COMPLETE WITH AN OVERFLOW/RECOVERY SYSTEM, TWIN ELECTRIC FANS AND AN ALUMINUM WATER PUMP. THE SERPINTENE PULLEYS ARE POLISHED ALUMINUM FROM KRC AND LOOK GREAT. THE CAMARO RUNS COOL IN TOWN OR ON THE HWY. IT NORMALLY CRUISES AT 180 DEGREES. AND ON A HOT 90+ WILL CREEP UP TO 190 IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFOIC THEN GO RIGHT BACK DOWN TO 180 OR LESS ONCE YOU START MOVING.

INTERIOR: THE INTERIOR IS ALL NEW AND COMPLETE WITH A CENTER CONSOLE, CARPET, NEW SKINS, DASH, PACKAGE TRAY, HEADLINER, DOOR PANELS, MOMO LEATHER STEERING WHEEL, VINTAGE AIR A/C AND HEATER, AND FULL OF AUTOMETER ULTRA LITE QAUGES. SEATS ARE VERY COOL PRO-CAR \ SCAT PRO-RALLEY SEATS THAT ARE VERTICALLY STICHED TO MATCH THE REAR SEAT, HAVE GREAT LUMBAR AND MATCH THSI CAR PERFECT. I ALSO HAD THE TRUNK UNPOSLTERED IN A COLOR MATCHING SCHEME. THE SPEEDO IS A PROGRAMABLE 5" ELECTRIC GAUGE WITH DIGITAL ODOMETER. THE FOUR GAUGES IN THE CENTER CONSOLE INCLUDE A CLOCK, FUEL, OIL PRESSURE AND WATER TEMP. THE SHIFTER BOOT IS A NASCAR SFI NOMEX BOOT AND OFFERS A COOL ALTERNATIVE TO THE BORING RUBBER STYLE.

There is much more to tell but that should give you some basics. I took the car it to Goodies Speed Shop (www.goodies-speedsop.com) here in San Jose for a once over and for Dyno tuning. They can serve as a great reference for this car.

Here is a link to that online picture hosting site. To really see pictures of this car you need to click on any one picture to start a slide show of 5X8 sized pictures and then once inside the slide show you can click on any 5X8 picture to see it full size. Some of the pictures of the trunk are before I had it upholstered and some of the pictures of the engine are before the Vintage Air Heat and Cooling was added. You may have to cut this link out of this document and paste it into your browser but it will get you to the picture hosting site. Here is the link:

Hey Chris, Let me see the car. You have time this week?

awr68 02-03-2008 11:19 AM

Looks like it turned out great Chris!!
What do you want to build next?

Flash68 02-03-2008 12:02 PM

Awesome car!

Where are those quicktime videos? :)

Stuart Adams 02-03-2008 12:31 PM

How much ground clearance do you have with the oil pan and headers? Cool car.

awr68 02-03-2008 12:36 PM

Not picking it appart at all but this caught my attention, Is the bottom of the rear coil overs really as low as they look in the pics...if so thats pretty unsafe! Not to mention illegal if they are below the bottom of the wheel...

chrismoe 02-03-2008 01:47 PM

Ground clearance, etc. and some short videos

Anthony,

Thanks for the kind words on my car. I wish I could take all the credit for how nice the car tuned out. Almost all the credit goes to Tracy. As for ground clearance and the rear coil overs. Yes, they look low but they do not sit below the wheel at their lowest point. Clearance is not an issue at all. As for what I hope to get into next, I am pretty open but perhaps a Mustang or even another Camaro.

Mike,

I am around after work most of the week. And, the weather is finally supposed to be clearing up. What day are you thinking?

Stuart,

No clearance problems with the oil pan but the headers are low. I do not scrape at all during normal or even spirited driving but I drive up steep driveways sideways. Same with speed bumps. Also, not rub from the tires (of course).

Flash68,

Thanks for the kind words. And, hopefully these small Quicklime videos will work. They come from my girlfriends phone so the quality sucks but at least you can hear how quickly this car grabs revs. Pretty cool considering it makes so much HP this Camaro makes. If the videos do not work PM me with your email address and I will email them to you. Last word on this...turn up your speakers because the audio is quiet, and, because it sounds good loud.

Take care,

Flash68 02-03-2008 02:02 PM

Chris, thanks for posting those videos. Awesome sound and amazing throttle response it sounds like.

I assume that is the direct kit from Spintech is what is on there? With the Sportsman XL muffs? I am thinking of getting the same kit for mine. That sounds great.

Good luck if you decide to sell it. Not sure what it would bring on the open market, but I would be willing to bet ebay or even BJ would bring you your top dollar. Never hurts to throw it on ebay with a pretty high reserve just to test the market. You have such a great parts list there it could bring big $.

Thanks again.

chrismoe 02-03-2008 04:29 PM

Exhaust

Flash68,

Yea, they are Spin Tech's Sportmans XL's. They sound wicked in person.

Take care,
Chris

Tomorrow anytime. You interested in another cool camaro, or a cool built up 57 Bel Air?
What's on your mind as far as trades go?

chrismoe 02-04-2008 08:04 AM

Time to connect

Mike,

We could meet at my place around 4:30 tiday (Monday) if that can work for you. Just let me know. I will PM you my address.

As for trades.....I am pretty open. Or I may just sell the car and look around.

Chris

MarkM66 02-04-2008 11:06 AM

I like it. What alternator, power steering pump, pulleys and brackets are you using? And what steering box are you using?

chrismoe 02-04-2008 12:18 PM

Camaro info

MarM66,

Hope you are well. The pulleys and brackets are from KRC, and are polished. The power steering pump is a KRC aluminum pump with a KRC remote reservoir. Finally, the system uses a quick ratio steering box and all lines are braided. I think in 1 of the pictures on the Internet picture hosting site there is a close up of the remote setup. I have also attached a picture of the remote reservoir as well as the power steeering pump to this post. Both of these pictures were taken before the Vintage Air \ Cooling was added. It is a cool setup. Here is a link to KRC's website:

http://www.krcpower.com/

The alternator is a Power Master 140 amp., 1 wire.

Take care,
Chris

mazspeed 02-04-2008 10:25 PM

Thanks for the hospitality tonight Chris. Ill take you up on that beer, anytime.
On a side note, he is selling this car, and it's bad ass. It's a f***ing steal at the price he has it, and you could not build it for this price. He got a great deal on it, and is looking to pass that same deal on. He did some fix it-mod work done, now it's perfect and ready to go. If I had the money, the car would be in my garage tonight. It sounds nasty and it is sweet. For $75k someone should be snapping this thing up right away. Best car for the price I have seen in years. If only I had the money.

awr68 02-04-2008 10:29 PM

Yeah...but did you like it Mike?

Does sound like a great price!!

Mike,

Nice to finally meet you. And, thanks for the kind words on my Camaro.

Details on selling the car

To start, Moderators, I plan to only have this post up for just one more day so I hope it is OK to have it here, in the Open Discussion section, since the thread started here and member are looking for it here in this section. If not, please let me know.

Fellow Lateral-g members,

Here is the deal with selling my Camaro. A pretty well known shop in the mid west that I have dealt with before has offered me $72,000 for my Camaro. Their plan is to transport it to their shop and flip it for a profit. Makes sense, that is their business. They plan on asking $80,000 or so for the car. And with their reputation, list of clients and how nice this car is, I think they will get that pretty easy. If possible, I would like to sell this Camaro to an end-user, preferably a lateral-g or pro-touring.com member. Nothing against this dealer or any other classic car dealer, Just feels more appropriate to sell this car to an end user. I got a great deal on this car and would like to pass that same deal onto another car guy or gal. I have to \ want to move quickly so here is the deal.

I will sell the car to there first person who can come up with $71,000. Considering the extensive parts list and work in this car (read the initial post as well as some follow up posts in this thread for more details), its condition (great), how fresh it is (350 MILES), how fast it is (638 ft. lbs of torque and 593 HP at the rear wheels) and the fact that it is a freaking awesome car, that is a screaming deal for someone. But again, I need to move ASAP.

So, PM me right away or call me on my cell at (650) 888-7520 right away if you are interested.

By the way, I added a few pictures to the Internet hosting site. 1 is a shot of the Camaro in the driveway as me and some friends get ready to take the dirt bikes out on Christmas day. I like this shot because the Camaro is not "staged" but still looks great. The other new shot is a detail shot of the upholstered trunk. I spend some time and money getting that right so I wanted to show some of that detail. The newly added pictures are at the bottom of the page. The link to this Internet picture hosting site is still the same as I listed in my first post.

Remember, to really see pictures of this car you need to click on any one picture to start a slide show of 5X8 sized pictures and then once inside the slide show you can click on any 5X8 picture to see it full size. Some of the pictures of the trunk are before I had it upholstered and some of the pictures of the engine are before the Vintage Air Conditioning and Heat and was added. You may have to cut this link out of this document and paste it into your browser but it will get you to the picture hosting site. Here is the link:

http://www.fototime.com/inv/A6B3CADC6D37356

So, that is the scoop. Please contact me right away if interested.

Thanks and take care,
Chris

Hello Chris,

I want to agree with rest of the gang and say your car is totally awsome. I am sure it will sell quickly. I read your post and you wrote at the color is sebring silver. Is that C5 corvettes stock sebring silver? If you dont mind i would like to use same color.

chrismoe 02-05-2008 09:22 AM

Color

Bowtieracing,

Yes, the color is c5 Sebring Silver and I think it would be fine if you used the same color.

Take care,
Chris

rim questions

Folks,

Thanks for the questions about the Camaro. I have received quite a few about the rims so I thought I would post a thread for all to see.

The rims are Forgeline SP3P's. They have a chrome lip with gun metal gray centers. The fronts are 18 X 8.5 and the rears are 18 X 12. And, with the DSE mini tub the rear tires are 335 pilot sports. Here is a link to Forgelines web site:

http://www.forgeline.com/

I took a quick (garage) shot of the rear rim and posted it on the same Internet picture hosting site with the other pics of the Camaro. It is at the bottom. Here is that link again:

Very cool car...You like Nova's??? LOL

Paul

chrismoe 02-05-2008 06:03 PM

Paul,

I am not really a Nova fan, I hope I did not offend anyone - just not my favorite body style, but your car is pretty cool. What did you have in mind?

Please email me, very interested.

chrismoe 02-10-2008 09:05 PM

uthustler,

Matt, is this you? If so, I just responded to your PM and I just sent you an email to your Yahoo email account. I am asking $67,500. I believe I put the asking price at the bottom of the ad.

Take care,
Chris

mazspeed 02-10-2008 09:22 PM

$67500?? That's a $100 grand car, why are you dropping the price? That's a steal at that price.

chrismoe 02-11-2008 08:34 AM

Selling in a hurry

Which car is it? Was the picture in the garage? The blue one or the red one? If you don't sell it, I should have mine back for the weekend, we can hang out. My wife wants to go on a drive somewhere with it. If you have it by this weekend and if I get mine, Ill call you.

My Camaro is sold!

Mike,

The Camaro is sold. It will be picked up tomorrow and is headed to the mid-west. And yes, the car I was trying to reacquire was one of the pictures on my garage wall. Unfortunately, the current owner just decided he is not interested in selling it back to me after all. I learned about this after I committed to the sale of my silver and black Camaro so it was too late to decide to keep it. At least not without pulling the rug out from underneath the buyer which I would not do. So, I am starting my search for a replacement car.

If you or anyone else knows of a nice pro-tour and\or muscle car for sale please let me know.

Thanks,
Chris

uthustler 02-12-2008 03:28 PM

dang, please tell me a 'flipper' didnt buy it?

chrismoe 02-12-2008 06:41 PM

flipper?

Matt,

Do you mean a car dealer?

mazspeed 02-12-2008 07:08 PM

Hey Chris, sorry to hear you sold the car, but I knew it was not going to stay sold long. What are you looking for? I know of a few cars (not here) for sale that might be cool to you, depending on what your taste is at the moment. Are you just sort of looking to see what peeks your interest?

chrismoe 02-12-2008 08:11 PM

Matt,

Yes. I did sell the car to a dealer. Sorry man. But, this particular dealership is owned and operated by a great, car oriented, family. I have purchased cars from them before and received a fair deal. I will let the new owner introduce themselves.

Sorry things did not work out Matt.

Take care,
Chris

oh, ok, well, if they are reputable then that is cool. how much do they plan to sell it for?

chrismoe 02-12-2008 08:12 PM

Next?

Mike,

Yea, that is exactly what I am doing...just poking around. Since the opportunity to buy back my yellow Camaro fell through I am just looking around. So, if you know of some nice cars please let me know.

Thanks,
Chris

chrismoe 02-12-2008 08:15 PM

Matt,

I am not sure. It may be the case that the new owner keeps the car for a while as his cruise in \ show car and then sells it. But, like I said, they seem to price their cars very fair so I would assume they would do the same with this car.

The new owner visits this forum so I am sure he will see this thread and perhaps you 2 can connect.

Chris
