Pro-touring 66 GTO
9 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, I am a 24 year old car builder/ CNC operator from Galesburg, IL. When i was going to Carl Sandburg College, i was fourtunate enough to help my then shop teacher with a project that he had taken on on the side. That was December of 2004. Finally, almost four years and a lot of changed minds later, using only the time my teacher and i had in between classes and our other jobs, the car has just finished being painted and is almost completly assembled. Here are a few photos from along the way. please let me know what you guys think. Keep in mind this is the first car i have completely built. I will post more photos when the interior and assembly are done. thanks.

WOW! That's a sweet ride by any standard, but absolutely astonishing for a first build! I'm 25 myself and if guys our age can crank out stuff like that, this hobby has a bright future.
|

You must be pumped. |
Really nice. Interior pics?
|
i took a couple of "spy shots" of the interior with my cell phone, but the car was dusty and it was kind of dark so i am going to wait until i can use my good camera and have a better shot at it, then i will post some shots of everything.
|
SWEET car man looks great..
I would of gone with a different wheel selection myself though.. For some reason the wheels look small on there. Josh |
We need pics now...That is in order son;)
I love the car and love the color combo. My favorite of all time. Looking forward to finished shots. |
Yes, ranger2339, the wheels do look a little small. the backs are the absoultly biggest(height and width) wheel/tire combo that will fit up into the rear fenderwell without any modifications. We wanted to get 19" wheels for the front but they only make the Nitrous IIs in an 18" and 20" and the Nitrous IIs are so much cleaner looking than the regular Nitrous wheels.

Thanks to all of you who have commented on the car. After finishing it yesterday we drove it to a small cruise-in in a small town about 20 miles away. the response was overwhelming. i was answering questions and talking to people about the car the entire night. I didn't even have time to walk around and see any of the other cars. Now, as promised, here are a couple of photos of the finished product. the ones from the show are from my phone and the ones at dusk are from my camera. Enjoy.

Congrats!!
You nailed it with the color combo and stance. VERY NICE |
I love Goats. Schweet.

NICE GOAT!!!
Very nice car. She turned out awesome. Love the color scheme.  |

Name?
I was just thinking about what to name the car. Ever since i started it everyone, myself included, just referred to it as "the GTO". which was ok, because no one else in the area had one. Now that it's done i wanted to give it a proper name.
IDEAS: The first three reference the fact that I started this car in school with my teacher. Thesis (My personal favorite) Final Exam Schools Out Stimulus (The car is owned by a local bank president) Let me know what you guys think. I am also looking for some suggestions. |

Since GTO's are called GOATS -- And it was a teacher / student project -- how about: SkoolPet PetGoat GrdAGTO FINALGRD Personally I liked Thesis - but would add "MY" as in MYTHESIS Nice project!! Way to go! |

MYTHESIS sounds cool to me..
|
It's official.
Sounds good to me. The car will henceforth known as "Project MyThesis". Now if i could only change the headline for this thread to match it.
|
Well.....
After about a week of thinking about it, I have changed my mind and am going to go with my first choice and just call it Thesis. it's just simpler and i think that it sounds better.

tukes --
Your build - your car - you get to name it anything that turns your crank! My brother in law used to run a license plate - ATTHEY -- short for his perverted little pea brain "at the y" -- but -- this is the funny part - there was a STREET SWEEPER company in Portland that's name was ATTHEY pronounced AT THE HAY... and everybody just figured he must work there.... LOL. I'm building a 37 Ford Minotti - going old skool with the "looks" (exterior) with a LS6 from a 2002 ZO6 - and am thinking of "NEWNBOLD" but that can be read a few different ways.... so maybe NU N OLD or something on that line. |
